Question Gas mileage question

Ok got my g35 less than a week ago. Came with a full tank of gas. I drove it till the gage said it was down three quarters of a tank(60% hwy, 40% city). Filled it up(12.39gals in). Trip meter said 308 miles driven. 308/12.39 = 24.85mpg. Awesome! Then I continued driving it till the gas gage said I was down a quarter of a tank. Ok right? well that was until I looked at my trip meter and it said 52.7 miles traveled. So I filled it back up(5.04 gals in). 52.7/5.04 = 10.45mpg..... wtf -_-. Now this last driving session was 100% city but come on, should it really drop ~14mpg? I've only gunned it once or twice but I've been going easy most of the time and keeping it under 4K rpms. Is this normal? I checked for gas leakage but that was negative.

Must be an Athens Blue thing. I get 13.6 mpg 80% city/ 20% hwy, and I don't beat on my car at all. Just learn to live with the gas mileage.

I love the car to death but the problem is it was bought mainly because it supposedly got better gas mileage than my truck(9.5-10mpg). If it's gonna get the same mileage then it'd be cheaper to use the truck since it runs on regular. If the mileage doesn't improve odds are my father will make me sell it or trade it for something else.

In bumper to bumper traffic I still don't get any less than 16 mpg EVER. Usually around 18. Something is wrong if you are getting 10 MPG.

Wait until after break-in. Supposedly it gets better. Don't sell your car, you'll lose thousands worth of gas. That's the stupidest thing your dad can do to you. My gas mileage is so low because I do let my car idle sometimes with the A/C on, and all my trips are really short. Use the A/C as little as possible, and try to be easy on the gas, your dad won't even know

my mileage has gotten a lot better since i put in the nismo intake....maybe you should look into getting a K&N drop in filter, it helps also.

I got 19.5 mpg on my first tank. With 6,050 miles, I just filled up today and got 26.7 mpg. That suprprised me because that tank was used driving around 300 miles up, down and around on mountain roads.

Dude, the engine is still breaking in. As you put a couple thousand miles on it you'll see it improve. Just keep changing the oil. During the break in period a lot of people on this forum did oil changes every couple hundred miles. If you do a search you'll find it. But don't worry, the engine is still new and breaking in.

AC shouldn't be eating a lot of gas unless you have it set on high, try to keep it at a lower fan if at all possible.

A lot of people making oil changes every couple of hundred miles???

Lower fan going to help gas mileage???

In reviewing and searching these forums regularly there isn't one person I know of doing that.

The fan speed has nothing to do with fuel mileage. The cycling of the compressor affects fuel mileage which works on demand based on the ****pit temperature and control setting, ambient air temp and humidity.

I don't use the A/C, I like riding with the windows down and the moonroof open. It seem to be doing better since I topped it off. I know it sounds stupid but maybe I got some bad gas(by bad I mean below it's rated octane). That combined with break-in and stop'n'go would proably be enough to drop it that much.

Short distance mileage checks can be very inaccurate. The 308 mile check you did was more indicative of what you actually get.
Do some more checks.

I used to fill up with gas from the "cheapie" stations, and would have to start worrying about filling up from being dangerously low at around 275 miles (I reset my trip odometer each fill up to track mileage) and ever since I stopped doing that I noticed I can go well over 350 miles before I have an absolute need to fill up.
