Next Mod? Spacer Purchase?

I have o4 Coupe M6. Just dropped a Z-tube in and have decided against a pop charger in place of a simple K&N drop in. My question is would the installation of a MD 5/16 spacer be a good choice now? I see Tony has a group buy going on and some neat little changes to the basic spacer.

A plenum spacer is definatly recommended. It was my first mod and I notice an instant result.

I have the 5/8 inch Motordyne plenum spacer. It is one of the best mods I have done. Immediatly noticable! I love it and have just ordered the Iso Thermal gasket to compliment it.

5/8? I didn't see that offered. I saw 5/16 and 1/2. So is your engine simply uncovered now? I've read the cover doesnt fit with the 1/2 inch spacer.

I'm sorry...I meant 3/8 inch spacer. Tony (Hydrazine) stopped making the 3/8 inch spacer when he came up with the Iso Thermal gasket. The gasket plus the new thinner spacer allow the engine cover to be used. We wll see if my thicker spacer plus the gasket allow the cover to be used. I believe it will, but might be a tight fit I have not put the engine cover on since I installed the spacer. I kept it off to check the torque on the plenum bolts after the installation. I bet it is cooler without the cover as well.

I won a 5/16 during the turbonetics meet in simi valley. Can't wait to install these. Nothing beats a free stuff.

the decision comes down to slightly more power (1/2") and no engine cover, or a little less power (5/16") and stock engine cover in place

Yeah I know. That's the hang up. I'm not sure if I want to keep the stock engine cover or not. What are most doing?

IMO most people who purchased the spacer wanted to keep a stock OEM look therefore they would keep the engine cover on. Most people who arent worried about a stock look normally purchase a crawford or kinetix plenum.

is the performance gains going to be relatively the same between the 1/2" spacer and the crawford plenum? with the group by going on, the MD spacer is very tempting...

I guess that makes sense but now you just through another wrench into my decision. LOL

So, if the 1/2 inch spacer eliminates the engine cover, why are some people still opting for this route over a whole new Crawford plenom?

So, the question then becomes - 1/2 inch MD spacer or a Crawford plenum?

Advantages? Disadvantages?
