Which cold air intake would you all recommend, the Nismo or Stillen??

 

IMO, NismO. Nismo is more flashy, the stillen is just a plastic looking box with a filter inside...

 

I have the Stillen and love it! The Plastic is actually Urethane which does not soak up the heat. It gives a really great growl on accelaration. The Nismo looks to be "Bling".... Stillen claims 10 HP on the Sedan. I don't know what Nismo claims.....

 

Stillen claims 10hp on the intake... but they also claim 24rwhp on their exhaust... unreal... gimme some dyno numbers then i'll be a believer. I know its urethane thats why i said plastic looking. Yes the Nismo is more bling and growl but thats why ppl like it. btw Nismo claims 5-8 rwhp on their CAI.

does the stillen also create the whistling/spooling sound the JWT p/c also makes?

 

The Stillen CAI was the first mod I did to my 05 6mt and didn't notice any difference in sound or performance. There might of been a few extra ponies up top but I couldn't tell since I was still breaking in the motor. However, once I put the ztube on got a lot more noise. You can hear the air being sucked in the motor and a beter growl from the motor itself. To be honest, I think you can get the same effect with a k&n filter minus all the sound resonators around the stock air box and a ztube. That would save you over $100 for other mods.

One more thing about the Stillen - it's a b_tch to get the bottom bolt in. The easist thing would be to leave it off but I was determined to get it in.

The spacer that people are talking about is at the throttle of the engine. Is this correct?? I really like the sound of the engine with the spacer and z-tube.

 

The plenum spacer sits between the upper and lower intake plenum. Dyno results show a 10 HP gain on pre 2005 G35s. Something different about the 2005s, plenum spacers have not shown much gain in them.

Love the sound of your car. Iam planning on doing the same setup on my car when I get my G35.

 

I went with the Stillen because I wanted to keep everything "stock" looking. To the untrained eye, it's difficult to notice the Stillen airbox. It's a bit louder than the stock airbox but adding the Z-tube really makes a big difference in the sound.

I highly recommend the Stillen if you prefer to keep thing low-key. My only concern is removing the big K&N cone filter when it comes time to clean it. The whole airbox has to come out and there's a bolt at the bottom that was a pain to install.
