First Oil Change - Impressions
Just did my first oil change. Thumbs down to the 14 bolts that hold the diffuser on. Thumbs up to actually having a diffuser. Really protects the bottom of a beautiful, well accessable engine.
I used the nissan/infiniti filter...man it's tiny. What do you guys think about it? Thats a damn small filter for such a big V6.

Actually on all my other vehicles I use mobil 1 filters. With this one I figured I could save a few bux on filters by using theirs and also there would be no question on any warranty issues. I was just surprised at the size. The one on my lawn tractor is bigger for crissake.

You acted concerned about the size of the filter, as was I. On such a high performance engine, I don't want to skimp on this important item. I am using the K&N HP1006. Why should this be a warranty issue? As long as you change the oil and filter your OK. You don't need to use a Nissan one.

You don't need to pull the diffuser off. If you jack up the right front side of the car a little bit higher than the left the oil filter will drain right thru the cut out. (on a sedan, don't know about coupe). the oil plug drains perfectly. 20 minutes tops, including wiping down drips and pulling the engine cover off to avoid getting oil on it.

An aftermarket filter is not a warranty issue. The only way a car maker can require you to use their OEM filter is if they provide it to you free of charge. This has to do with any wear item (brake pads, hoses, etc.). It's part of the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.
The goal, of course, is to prevent the car maker from requiring replacement parts that they can charge a premium for.

Can't see it anywhere with the diffuser on. There appears to
be a small trap door in the cover. Is that where it is?
I find it easier to just take the G to the dealer with my
own synthetic oil. They charge me $19 to change the oil when
I bring my own, then I don't have the hassle of disposing of
the old oil. But, I really prefer to change my own oil.
During the 3+ years I have had our 2000 Maxima, I think
I have done all it's oil changes except maybe 2. Don't like
strangers working my cars.

I don't think there are diffusers that need to be taken off, in the front of the car. There is a cover, but I don't think it's a diffuser.

It is a diffuser. Underbody airflow is one of the things Infiniti paid attention to with this car, giving us a nice, low coefficient of drag.

Re: First Oil Change - Impressions
So, we already have diffusers in the front? And the deffusers that come with the aero package are for the rear?

Re: First Oil Change - Impressions
That is correct. I did not get the Aero kit so don't
have the rear diffusers, sniff sniff....
Checked into buying them from the dealer. For $700+
I will just have to live without them.

Re: First Oil Change - Impressions
I didn't think the diffusers were that expensive. Are you sure that doesn't include the spoiler? I think GSM? looked at just the diffusers for less than $100 if I remember correctly.

Re: First Oil Change - Impressions
I specifically asked my smartallecky parts guy about
the rear diffusers. He quoted me $700+. Also quoted me
$600+ for the spoiler. You know that whenever you buy
parts separately, they ask for an arm and a leg.
In this case, it is worth it to get the Aero kit.
