Redlining to 7300rpm......

I used to be the kind of guy who would never drive too far beyond the speed limit and never even get passed 5k rpm. I did not believe in racing or driving hard to have fun. But recently I've done a few things that I regret.

All in one night, I redlined my car, 05 G35 coupe 6MT, to 7300 rpm (Redline begins at 7k) in 2nd gear to overpass someone.

Twice, I revved it to 4000rpm and dumped the clutch to get the tires to skid. On the second time i did that... I floored it right after i dumped the clutch and the shifter started to shake VIOLENTLY, I could feel wheel hop, then I shifted to 2nd gear (the car barely moved forward), but I grinded that gear really harshly becuase the clutch wasnt that far in...and after that i started moving.

Now, I know these things are not good for the car.....Dumping the clutch can take a chuck away from the clutch, and the shaking came from the engine, tranny and exhuast all shaking at the same time.

But i have I done any serious damage to my car? Mabye to the moldings that hold the inner body...but is it serious damage?
This all happened about four days ago...but the car still feels brand new.

VQ isn't built to handle much over 7000rpm stock. Keep it up and you'll probably blow your engine.

althogh why you'd want to rev that high is beyond me; power starts to drop off in the late 6000s in a stock/near-stock form

lf you got right out of it at redline and didn't hear any massive breakage occuring in your tranny when you ground gears you should be fine. Every once in a while should not kill that tranny, clutch or engine, but as anyone will tell you, you don't want to make a habit of it.

Don't lose any sleep over it.

I wouldn't worry about redlining it, but the wheel hop, dumping the clutch at 4k, and grinding into second gear are all damaging, and will take their toll over time if you keep doing it.

"power starts to drop off in the late 6000s in a stock/near-stock form"

Power starts to drop off at the torque peak rpm, the imaginary mathematical term called horsepower peaks when the slope of rpm and the fall in torque cross each other.......optimum efficiency usually when torque falls 18% at what ever rpm this occurs on G35 V6.

Maximum acceleration thanks to gear multiplication means shifting such that the next gear falls just at or slightly above the torque peak rpm.

One must multiply the torque times the gear you are in to find the sweet spot to avoid reving too high to waste rpms in the next shift.
