Crawford Install (Sedan illustrated)

<font color=blue>Thanks to Steve for compiling this tutorial on the Crawford Plenum install, and for allowing it's posting in our Forum.
I'd like to add that I ordered mine thru Yuichi at StrictlyZ. He strongly recommends new gaskets with this install.
Cheers Zimbo.</font color=blue>

Guide for the Mechanically Uninclined G35 Owner: The Crawford Plenum
<font color=red>Overview</font color=red>

<font color=red>Description</font color=red>
The Crawford Plenum is a modified manifold collector cover, specially designed to allow more air intake. Considered by many to be one of the best "bang-for-buck" performance improvements available for the G35, the Crawford plenum offers a claim of +9hp at the power curve peak with a +20hp gain at redline. More details (including order information) can be found on the Crawford Z Car Web Site.

<font color=red>Cost</font color=red>
The Crawford Plenum is currently being offered to forum members at a cost of $450 with the stipulation that the original plenum must be mailed to Crawford so that they can keep a continuous supply of units to modify. Shipping costs (both ways) are not included in the $450 price, but UPS ground shipping charges are likely to be less than $50 in the continental US. Crawford sends the unit with a pre-prepared shipping label making it fairly painless to return your stock unit.

<font color=red>Installation</font color=red>
Installing the plenum can be done by one person with little or no mechanical experience in about an hour. The following tools are required to perform the installation:

A 10mm socket wrench with 3" reach extension
A pair of needle nose pliers
A medium flathead screwdriver

<font color=red>Before You Begin</font color=red>
The following recommendations may prove helpful prior to installation:

Park your car in a location where it can remain out of the elements during the duration of the installation. Leave yourself plenty of room to maneuver in front of and around the hood.
Allow your car to cool if necessary since the operating temperature of the plenum during normal driving is much too hot to work with during installation.
Set the replacement plenum on top of the stock plenum prior to installation to ensure that the bolts line up correctly.

Re: Crawford Install (Sedan illustrated)

<font color=blue>Further info on the install of the Crawford V-5 plenum - by Socalted:</font color=blue>

<font color=red>v5 addendums to the section --> Installing the New Plenum:</font color=red>

<font color=black>Step 1</font color=black>: Install Plug Bolts.
There are now four (4) 10mm plug bolts, and they also may not be brass. These bolts, which come from CrawfordZ, do not have lock-washers, but are pre-lubricated with loc-tite.

You will now, in addition to the two lower/outer holes, plug the two top/outer holes above the ones illustrated in the instructions.

When installing these bolts, be careful not to torque down so that the rubber gasket lifts up. If this happens, back off on the bolt, reseat the gasket and tighten down. In speaking with Doug @ Crawford, the lifting of the gasket will actually not do any damage....he has actually experienced this many times. He event stated that on his car he did not bother to reseat the gasket flat.

<font color=black>Step 4</font color=black>: Replace the Plenum and the Plenum bolts
v5 Plenums no longer require bolt numbers 3 and 6.

Cheers, Ted
