To pulley or not to pulley that is the question?????

Okay guys I know this has been debated and argued over many times over but I just wanted to see what FGC members thought about this mod because I havent seen anyone with a pulley kit.

I heard you can get moddest HP gains between the range of 10 and 12 HP but there is a huge debate about whether it is good for internal components of your engine do to dampening and Harmonic balancing. Also people argue about whether you can gain that much from a pulley. Just wanted to see what you all thought.

Tom, Jermey wanted to hear from you all since you all seem to be the experts.

Thanks in advance.

are you talking about the unorthodox underdrive pulleys? or the damping pulley?

The UR pulleys which are not dampened from my understanding.... The stock ones are damped tech. from what I hear. apparently there is a big debate whether or not the rubber strip on the crank pulley goes all the way through the pulley making it truly dampened however some believe that eventhough the rubber strip does not go all the way through the stock pulley it still dampens. Am I thinking of this the wrong way tell me if I am.

The I have read it is if you lose wieght off the crank pulley you free up HP directly off the crank. The underdrive is where the diameter of the pulley is different also freeing up HP. I think everyone agrees froma physics point of view and common sense if you think about it that if you lose weight of the crank pulley you will free up HP. How much is the question. I have seen Dyno b4 and after to saying 12 HP gain to the wheel on the same dyno. I think Im thinking of this right.

So I guess what Im getting at is. Has anyone in FGC have it and do they like it and can anyone engine exp. break down the pros and cons. No Hypothetical BS just the facts.

okay after doing some more research and reading a little more into it I figured that its a waste of time to get this unless its underdrive pulley and even then the gains are not very substantial. Tell me if Im wrong. Thanks

I know I know TT is the ultimate but for those who are not making 1million dollars a year yet its kinda hard. specially when you dont live in a huge mansion and the wife is nagging me about it everyday all day.

ok, theoretically the pulleys HAVE to increase horsepower, anything that lightens the rotating mass of the crank, pistons, flywheel 100% will give you more horsepower. now the question is... do you want to take away the harmonic balancing that the stock pulley provides, there are many many people who have had them on their cars for years with no problems,

i would say, do it. its a cheap way to pick up minimal horsepower. it will be in the range of 3-5 max.

i would go with underdrive too unless you have a system or plan on doing a supercharger anytime soon...

Thanks Jermey makes sense..... I hope one day to get a TT. So Im making sure i dont spend twice for the same thing. 150 for 3 HP not to bad sorry to ask another question what about the accessory pulleys. If they are underdriven I imagine I would see some HP gains on that as well.

the accesories pulleys are just lighter, mostly for looks but again theoretically it will provide minimal hp. the crankpulley is the underdriving one, which just means smaller, smaller meaning it will spin the rest of the pulleys less on one revolution therefore it is making the other pulleys underdriving already....
