Some quick general questions

I know that I could do a search but have a couple of general questions.

1. What was added to the manual trans to get the hp to 298 vs mine with only 280 ?

2. Is my engine considered a Rev- Up Motor and if so, what does that mean (my car is an automatic) ?

3. Is there a huge time difference between the automatic vs manual ??

I apologize if these questions are so basic but was just wondering. I'm trying to figure out things about the car everyday.

Thanks again

1. Loss of power through the drivetrain. Motor is the same.

2. Depends on the year. But if you're and automatic and a 2005 and under you are a non rev-up.

3. Depends on the driver. It can go either way.

I have an 06 automatic coupe so I assume that it is a Rev motor than. What does that mean ?? Is there a higher RPM that the car can be shifted at (using the automatic shift function) ? Please feel free to be technical because I've been around cars all my life.

I'm assuming the numbers that are posted from Infiniti are engine HP numbers and not rear wheel numbers. Am I correct with this statement.

No automatics are Rev-up motors. So you have the non-Rev-up motor. The Rev-up motor makes a few more hp but less torque than the non-Rev-up. On a dyno, the difference may be measurable, but I don't know if you'll feel it on the street.

The hp numbers are measured at the crank. The automatic will have more drivetrain loss than the manual when measuring rear wheel hp numbers. Most G's are 225-240 rwhp.

Thanks for the info guys. Like I wrote prior, I'm just trying to figure out what I have so some of my questions might sound basic. I would actually love to meet some local guys and just be able talk.

Nothing was added to the manual transmission, it's a different engine. The revup has variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust cams, a different lower plenum, and a different ECU. There might be something else, too... but that all I can think of off of the top of my head.

RevUps only come in the six speed cars.

I don't know what you call huge, but the six speed is probably three to five tenths faster in the quarter mile. I'm comparing stocks G's with stock auto and manual transmissions and good drivers.

Not a problem, you gotta start somewhere...
