Florida Tag Renewal

Last week, I renewed my FL tag online. Today I received a new tag instead of just a sticker for the plate which I had been getting for the last 5 years. I can't imagine that it's cost effective to issue every driver a new plate at renewal time. I called Sun Pass to let them know my plate number had changed and the guy said it was his fourth call today for renewed plates.

Anyone have some insight as to why the State is reissuing plates rather than renewing the stickers?

its part of floridas laws apparently to have your tag replaced every five years, the last vehicle ive owned had them replaced after the 4th year...

^ Hmm, not sure. My g/f had a specialty that she's only had for 7 months and when it was renewed on her birthday this month, they sent her a new tag too. She was a little pissed since she got a plain FL tag.

thats kinda strange, how come she only had her tag for 7 months and renewed it, you normally wait a year... lol

She reregistered the vehicle which required a new tag. She opted for a specialty tag which got replaced with another new tag when she renewed.

Tags fade and become less reflective, so they get replaced every 5 years or so.
