I would be weary of the bank draft. Some fake checks are so good that the banks don't pick up on them until weeks later. By that time, the guy is gone - you'll never see him, and if you withdrew and spent the money based on his check, you could have to pay that money back to the bank. Then you're out the money and the watch.

Work out the transaction so that you end up with cash by the time you give him the watch...

Ensure the funds are in your account. He may just being cautious as well as to the authenticity of Rolex and wants to see it in person as well as not declare it upon his return flight and beat paying duties on it.

dam, that would've been a lot easier transaction, hahahah.

Thanks for all the input guys. The german guy is bringing cash, as well as a voucher from Citibank, showing that he actually took the money out of his own account, so I don't feel so bad anymore. Maybe i need to get one of those counterfeit detection markers, haha.

It just strikes me as strange, that's all..Feels like a movie or something. "Our connection in germany is flying in tomorrow, bring the cash, and I'll the bring the "goods" " Meet me at the continental plaza at 9am. Danka, siegfried. haha

This is going down this friday. I'll let you all know how it goes.

By FAR the best advice given in this thread. If there's ONE thing you do, THIS would be it.

Import tax in Germany is ridiculous, and with the USD currency weak while EU so strong, it is better for him to just fly here. And if he has a business, his travel expenses could be tax deductible. So I'd say he's legit. But as Hi-Tech_G mentioned about check scams, advise him it'll be better if he just cash his check here in the US and hand it over to you or your dad once he confirms the watch's authenticity.

transaction turned out perfect. It turns out the old german guy was a retired airline pilot. He flew first class from germany for $300! He stayed one night in orlando, paid cash for the watch, and then flew home, haha..

Apparently, he travels all over the world, collecting stuff. Balla! haha

Sounds legit as long as you meet him in a public place.
