Utec and Tune

Has anyone here that has a N/A car had a Utec installed and tune performed? Was there any differance afterwards? Will the car run lean with many bolt on mods at higher rpms without a tune performed?

I have known some people with an NA tune with the UTEC. However, I recently read that Jeremy at Performance Factory won't tune an NA car with the UTEC because it won't hold the settings with the ECU. I don't know how much truth there is to that, so give them a call. An option may be the Haltech that jb has. Jeremy tuned jb's NA car with it.

My plans were always to go with a full standalone from the beginning. The obvious downside to a Haltech is the cost, but it is a great EMS.

I know that Jeremy said he had some issues with maps shifting using a UTEC on NA cars. I'd suggest giving Jeremy a call if that's what you're interested in. Several people have had Jeremy tune their cars with UTECs. 143trust is the most recent that comes to mind. Maybe he'll post up his experiences.

the best solution is a reflash as the stock computer cannot try to revert to old settings anymore.

that or a EMS that does not rely on the stock ecu ($$$$)

Yep, something like Osiris is a good choise, too. The problem is that no one locally can tune a car with Osiris. Will be better when the real time tuner for Osiris comes out (real soon).

I was the "straw that broke that camel named Jeremy's back". I have all the bolt-ons. He spent over 7 hours trying to tune my car but the ECU would adapt itself time and time again. It was a futile effort and I thought he was going to shoot me, his then girlfriend, and himself in the head before it was all over with--at almost 10pm...That said, he was totally cool and we compromised on his time and he uninstalled the utec. It still cost me a ton of money and him a ton of time, but we did learn that this was really a no go.

Jeremy might chime in, but I'm sure he wants to forget this worse than any coyote ugly situation he might have gotten himself into in the past...

dont waste $ on a reflash. a real time dyno tune is the only way to go.

I met a guy in MD who had pretty much every bolton and was running a utech. I think he said he gained about 15 hp from it after the tune

Now I am confused. How are some people saying they got gains while others say they didnt? Also how can people lose power from certain bolt ons if the computers aree supposed to adjust to the new conditions??Any thoughts??
