Touchy subject: Sleep driving

I wander if anyone here has had the midfortune of this happening to them. I was prescribed a medication solely to help me follow aleep at night. It has worked perfectly with no problems...

Until today. Last night I took my prescribed dosage and went to bed... I woke up and it was the afternoon My mom dropped by my room and asked why the dog was locked up. I was just coming too, and had no idea of what was going on.

I can't really put 2 and 2 together. I know Ambien has give people sleep walking in the past, but sleep driving? I found out that there was minor damage on my front bumper of my car... scratches, side light came off.

But I can't rememeber doing anything. I don't remember driving. The memory of it all is "dream-like" at best.

Just looking for advice. Do I get to foot the bill for this or will insurance help at all? Needless to say the Ambien is gone, gonna have to talk with the doctor about it. Scary stuff.

Sorry for the typos, my brain is still quite loopy.

I dont have much input on the subject, but i am glad to hear that your ok. That could have turned out really bad.... your lucky!

I hope your insurance will cover it. Are you sure that you drove, and that it wasn't a hit and run or anything?

Geeze man, I'm glad you're okay.

If you have full coverage on the car, then file a comprehensive claim or whatever and let them go after the Ambien company. That's the beauty of having insurance. My only concern is proving everything. Cause this certainly is a very strange situation.

And btw, is this Mike or Jay? Sorry, don't know your screen names lol

^ neither, Jay is Vispre and Mike is Visieon.

Scary to hear about that!! +1 to what Chris said - are you sure you drove, & it wasn't a hit and run? You may have sleep walked to put the dogs away, but maybe you didn't drive? Hmm... I know one of the disclaimers is "do not drive or operate machinery" etc, but how can you avoid doing that if you're sleeping!? Sheesh. Talk to the doctor and insurance, and keep us posted! Good luck!

Ahh, too many "V" screennames! Sorry

Yea, I wouldn't even know where to begin, but if you're not sure of what happened that night, what clues lead you to believe you were sleep driving?

Maybe I should clarify...

Obviously the damage would be a clue, but where were the keys before and after the incident? Where was the car before and after? Could anyone else have driven or have access to the car? I mean if it was in a garage or something, I guess it would have to have left the garage to get that damage...

The car was parked in my driveway. I have a very dreamlike state memory of it. When I woke up yesterday my sunglasses (which I ALWAYS keep in my car) were next to my bed where I keep my wallet, keys, and all that jazz.

A day later I'm just glad to be alright. Taking it to a body shop today to see the damage. Flushed the ambien down the toilet... I'm not sure how much of the Tiger Woods story is true, but if he was really on Ambien and Vicodin I can imagine how he wrecked his car now, ha.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

LOL at w0.

I'd get a repair estimate before making an insurance claim. It might be better to pay out of pocket.
