figure out your budget and go from there. your best bet though is start with the 3 basic companies for around $500: smith & wesson, glock, springfield. i shot all 3 of their subcompact 9mm's and picked the springfield xd because i shot the best with it. doesnt matter how expensive or pretty your gun is if you cant shoot it.
