Om noms Saturday night were incredible. This was the final celebratory food nomming for my b-day: mom took me to Fleur de Lys in the city. Felt wrong to take pics there so y'all will have to make do with descriptions
Amuse bouche:
Cream of artichoke soup with shaved carrots, microthin slice of spec-ham and a tiny drop of pea puree in a soup spoon
Appetizer:
BAEKEOFFE OF ESCARGOTS & TRUFFLES
Accented with a garlic & basil broth
Parsley salad and homemade brioche “snail”
Basically, escargot & truffle broth/soup with garlic & basic in a small earthenware/ceramic pot, lidded, and then the edges of the lid were sealed with puff pastry, and baked. Served with salad & brioche "snail" which at first I mistook for a mushroom, it was that artistically prepared.
Fish:
JUMBO LOUISIANA PRAWNS
Cream of artichoke, citrus salad, porcini oil, served with a tangerine sauce
Very large butterflied prawn in the above sauces. My mom had toasted bacon brioche served with her fish course, but since she doesn't eat bacon I got all those noms to myself, and sopped up all the delicious awesome wonderfulness
Meat:
SEARED FILET MIGNON WITH A LOBSTER TRUFFLED
MAC & CHEESE “EN BRIOCHE”
Accented with a red wine, shallot, thyme bordelaise sauce
Yea, it was exactly as awesome as that sounds. "En brioche" means that the lobster mac & cheese were cooked inside a brioche pastry shell that formed the miniature serving "bowl" for the mac & cheese
Cheese:
ASSORTMENT OF ARTISANAL CHEESES
Served with a rustic almond & apricot bread
YUMMY. Also came with a small bowl of mixed nuts & dried fruit drizzled in honey.
Dessert 1:
CHOCOLATE SOUFFLE
Served with cherry and Kirsch ice cream
Ice cream was fantastic, while the souffle with chocolate creme anglaise... not so much. Thankfully, my failure at ordering a dessert wasn't the end of the meal
As my mom had pre-warned 'em that it was for my b-day, we also got:
Dessert 2:
Raspberry mousse cake with a cylindrical tuile, white chocolate "happy birthday me" thingy and one more thing that I don't recall (omnomnom)
Dessert 3
Assortment of petit fours: chocolate truffle rolled in nuts, pistachio mirangue, mini custard tart with raspberries, mini chocolate tart with nuts, etc etc etc.
