I went this route. I am not really into dropping a lot of cash on a complete system as long as I can get some deep base with the stock unit. I have a soundstream 600 amp and 1 12" audiobahn alum woofer. I have the bass set to -3 and the treble all the way up on the radio. My stock speakers are pretty much my highs. I have the bass turned up on the amp for the woofer. Sounds great and it only cost me $400.

ye i did the same thing i have an audiobauhn 800x1 with a kicker comp vr 12in and it sounds great. the only thing you have to do if you dont change your head unit, is install a stereo splitter. this basically splices into your rear speaker wires giving you the rca outputs for your amp...overall i am happy with it, although the highs on the bose kinda suck, but reasonable for not spending the extra cash for upgraded tweeters
