Ouch!

I just love slaloming through tires on the highway at night!

So yeah, driving about 75 on I75 and all of a sudden what looked like a full size tire sitting on its side in right hand portion of the fast lane, so I quickly swerved and broke left partially into the shoulder but too late. Somehow it only impacted the side of the bumper, there is not a mark on the front at all, it just pulled out of place. I just knew as soon as it happened that my bumper would be in two, but evidently Greddy makes some quality stuff, not a crack or anything, just some rubber smear which is slowly coming off. The only thing that did break was the top brace in the engine bay, the black plastic where the pin would go through, I still can't picture how that broke but the bumper didn't. Plus it ripped off my side marker and part of the harness, a new bulb will clip in but it doesnt have the locking mechanism. The next morning I swapped back my stock bumper so I dont have to drive around looking like a total mess. For anyone that this has happened to, does insurance help? I'm assuming it doesn't. Yes my bumper is less than three inches off the ground, but it was tall enough to do damage to a "normal" car as well. So now I need to order new side markers and rub off all the rubber smearing, plus either raise the car somewhat with coilovers and/or get a new bumper that is not so low. It is just obnoxiously low especially in Gainesville with all the hills and raised driveways to places.

I am glad that you are OK and that the damage wasn't too bad. I have a ? How are you going top repair the broken top brace? I also have a broken one and have no idea as to how to fix it.

For now I have a bolt with washers and a nut just sqeezing onto the rest of black brace instead of using the black plastic pegs. This works for now. If this doesn't hold up I will probably have to make another hole further up the brace and match that to a new hole on the very top arm of the bumper. I imagine there is no simple way to fix/replace the brace seeing as the whole black fiberglass composite seems to be one massive piece surrounding the engine bay. Please correct me if I am wrong or if you have any other ideas!

LMAO! Yeah, if your car were only lower the tire might have totally rolled over your bumper and not done any damage. LOL

The only problem i know of with insurance is that your deductible might be more the actual repairs in which case it doesnt make sense to go through you insurance.

That really sucks bro!!! Glad to know your O.K. though, sorry to hear that about your bumper. I'm having the same problems with my Greddy bumper and my G is not even lowered. I hate the wheel gap but, I think it hangs about 3 inches lower than the OEM bumper, I scrap on something every other day!!! Keep us updated with your repairs. Another question too, what springs were you using?

Sorry to see what happened. It will likely be best if you don't make an insurance claim. Save it for when things get really bad. Too many claims and you will be dropped.

Damn...that's horrible. At least the front bumper held up well. With the interstates in the conditions that they have been in lately, soon we will have to be dodging front bumper and other huge pieces of junk that should not be on the interstate! I swear, when I drive to and from Clearwater, I have to dodge large objects 2 or 3 times.
