HELL YEAH. I went with a P4 extreme because I basically stole it off ebay in a no reserve. Its an $1100 retail chip I got it for $570. the dual cores dont operate that high and truthfully there is nothing worth mention for software running 64bit. As for the 3k guess Wes...I WISH ;0

and stay home most of the time playing online games. Like counter strike, Doom or Need For Speed Underground or some type of race type game.

It runs pretty good... early BIOS for this motherboard was a bit shakey... CPU fan is quiet due to large blades and slow RPM...

Honestly I don't want anything fancy, on my old xp I had a zillion gigabytes of pictures and mp3s and it suited my needs just fine. I'm going to order a Dell one of these days, good to know I have a lot of trusty computer geeks on here to help me out

ps: they just came out with the new 2 zillion gigabyte drives... maybe it's time to upgrade anyway...

It's the motherboard, and it's fried. We opened it up to check. My power supply fan wasn't working to begin with, so I wouldn't even bother fixing the computer. I guess I can still burn everything on the HD on DVDs.

or just pull the HD out and plug into the new comp

Just remember if she buys a Dell that they jumper all their drives as CS (Cable Select). You'll have to jumper her Primary as a Master and her old hard drive as its Slave.

I just did this for a friend. Recoved her whole HD and made it a slave in her new unit. And no Dude she didn't buy a dell. But yeah all her word, JPEGS and what not were safe on her second hard drive. So what did we learn Surge Protectors aren't worth it ... Get a UPS.
