The more important question is what are you trying to do with these pictures? When you are trying to increase brightness/lighting in an image, you need to make adjustment layers (curves and levels). When working with dark images, you will always add noise when creating a brighter image; that's the nature of how photoshop interprets pixels and making them lighter. This is why all your underexposed images (dark) become grainy and pixelated - mostly because you are probably using brightness and contrast or too high of lighting correction for the photo.

Another thing to consider is creating a "Hue" layer and using a black paintbrush.. you can get rid of any color tinge (pinks, purples etc) by adding black on a hue layer; play with the opacity of the brush and layer. Another handy trick is the color balance adjustment layer, this works wonders for any photos lacking solid color and being oversaturated.

You can work yourself silly in photoshop.. I used to write tutorials back in the photoshop 6 and 7 days, but CS is so easy to use, you just have to play with it.

Make your image 40 x 40 pixels, File / Save For Web / JPEG - change the quality setting until it is under the size requirement.

^^^ +1

...but make your image 100x100... ...and try saving as a Gif if size is still too large...

After save for web, open up the double window with the original on the left and the lower quality image on the right... adjust the image on the right unti lit looks its best and is the size you want.

Thanks for the input...did you have a website that hosted your tutorials? I only messed with the levels, curves, and contrast...I just started messing with it a day ago. I was too lazy to take the purple fringing out of the picture.

Hmmm. Is Jeremy selling his G too. Seems to be a common FI trend:

Jorge - Gone
Alan - Leaving
Jason (TurboMax) - Hinted about leaving
Todd - Temp. Gone

Is Jeremy next on the list?
