5AT Vortech Question (shifting)

I am about to embark on my FI path... I chose to go with the Vortech / 3.12 pulley... I have a 5AT and I have been told and have read that w/ the Vortech you have to shift in MM because the auto tranny does not shift well with the Vortech...

Can anyone let me know what thier expeirences are with this?

Also is there a shift light mod for the auto?... Going from 2-3 I hit the rev limiter in MM more than I would like to, my car goes thru 2nd very fast.

thanks,

you shouldnt have any problem because of the vortech.i have the stillen and it shifts just fine.mm mode you kinda have to make sure you shift about 400 rpm,s before red line cause it does hit the rev limiter if not.the tranny cant keep up with the power being produced.also if you ever drag it the 3rd to 4th gear shift in mm sucks, its way to slow.

KPierson has a shift light mod for our cars.

A valve body upgrade will improve shift times.

I have read of hitting the rev limiter with a vortech in auto mode.

Grounding gear (hyperground) may help with the shift delay.

You're going to need a valve body if you want to use your power. I have the vortech set up on my 5AT. Doesn't shift for ****, even in MM you're going to have to shift very early for it to catch up. But for all around daily it shouldn't be a problem.

back when I had the auto, I could swear the car shifted faster in Drive than it did in manual mode. I really like the automatic - very responsive, but I started using manual mode a lot cause it was fun and was getting annoyed at the slight delay, especially if I wanted to go down two gears NOW. Valve body should solve all that - wasn't available back then when I had my automatic

^ but it doesn't work as well, by report... i've heard nothing but good things from SGP valve body work.

the forged performance one is new, but the few posts I have seen have been positive - and you can't beat the rep that company has...

It is a must for the 5AT cars to get the VB upgrade, I have the red line raised to 7100 and I still hit the dam thing, for this reason I started driving the car in MM mode just so I could shift sooner and avoid this problem. It worked well but you need to shift around 500rpm before the actual redline arrives.
I would have done the VB and TC mod along time ago but I am waiting on someone who will upgrade the whole tranny and not parts of it as the next thing to go would be the actual tranny itself if I keep adding power

I agree. You need a VB upgrade. 1 month after I had my vortech installed the tranny blew. Conservative tune, 3.33 pulley out of the box. 310rwhp, 266 tq. Got the SGP and level 10 TC. Tranny cooler is coming very soon plus some gauges.
