The ARC one looks nice. Is that the one that was like $200?

I'm not sure if it's the Z catch can, but it is on my car so that makes it a "G" catch can.

I'll try to make it to whatever meet you guys put together but I can't guarantee it.

what do you need a catch can for if you decide to bypass the BS emissions-related plumbing of the crankcase ventilation. am I missing something here?

is this for emissions compliance in some states? for looks? please enlighten me!

The catch can is used to prevent the blow by gases and oil from entering back into the air intake system for reburning. This is particularily harmfull if you have FI such as turbos because the oil will collect on the turbo fans and eventually cause unusual were and tear on the turbo's. There are two ways to accomplish this, one is to just bypass the whole emmisions system and venting the engine gases to the atmoshpere, such as the case with the ARC, or by re-routing the gasses (minus the oil) back into the intake system like the GReddy system does (I think that's how the GReddy system works, but I haven't actually seen one, just pictures, but I noticed that there are two lines coming off of the can so one of them must be going back into the intake system or it could be two inputs, one from each bank on the engine, not sure.)

I hope that helps and didn't confuse the question even more.

I see. I will going FI very soon and I was wondering if a catch can is really necessary.. The state the car is registered at doesn't need emissions after the first one so are you saying there is a way to bypass the whole emmisions system without a catch can? If there is a way to do this.. I might just do it until I get a catch can.

If you disconnect the PCV system, the gasses and oil have to go somewhere. Some people on older muscle cars just use a K&N type filter and vent the heads directly to the air. The filter catches the oil and the gases pass through the filter. I haven't seen anything like this for our cars so I don't know if it exists. Our solution is to use an oil catch can to collect the oil and allow the gasses to escape through a baffle type system within the can.

If there is some other method that someone else knows about feel free to chime in.

Yea, the intercooler will get hit as well but the turbos are a lot harder to service. I don't ever want to have to take those out of that tight engine compartment.

here's what I did:

I previuosly had the Home Depot catch can! Then I realized, why the hell do I still want to recycle crankcase gases? So, I wandered over to advance auto parts and I checked out the Ricer isle (APC junk) There it was, this perfect little valve cover breather.

I still have to do the other side, but that one is bigger. I also picked up a nipple to put on the manifold. You can see both of these in my every so poor photoshop skilled red highlighter!!!
