Re: g35c ati almost done
I've been somewhat hounding ATI about the "sub-optimal" air-filter placement (pre-SC). They don't seem responsive on this issue. I was planning on the ATI for my G Coupe (and self install as well) but until I am satisfied that the compressor longevity is not at risk due to possible grit injestion , I'll wait and see. Could you snap a few pics of the "pre-screen" and "post-filter"??? maybe there is an ready way to improve the pre-screen setup, ie. add a foam filter, better mesh etc. I'd just like to see how much room there is , or isn't?? Thanx and good luck on the first start up.

Re: g35c ati almost done
Let us know how the install went, any problems with the parts fitting as they should? Was the fuel system upgrade difficult?
Any bending,diegrinding ect.
And ditto to the question about the air filter.
And of course comment on the as* whippin' you give to the first fool that tries to pass ya !

Re: g35c ati almost done
First, I don't want to scare anyone away from the ATI kit
because, having installed the kit, they really had some tight
spaces to work with.
With that said, here's what I ran into (from memory):
1. relocate power steering cooler. did not find a mounting hole
where the manual said it should be (keep in mind many of
the pictures came from a 350Z and not a G35C)... went to
home depot and custom mounted the cooler in another location without any drilling.
2. intercooler required the drilling of 2 holes in the radiator
support (only drilling mentioned by manual).
I took a quick look and decided to mount it into 2 existing
holes (had nuts in it too)... quick trip to HD.
3. mounting blower. no problems installing it but like I said
earlier, it does not have a filter before it, only a metal screen.
In front of the blower is 2 ac lines. the screen literally rubbing
against the lines it was so tight. searched for days but
could not find a suitable filter to use. I think it real solution
is for ATI to redesign a mounting bracket specifically for the
G (rather than reuse the Z) that makes room for a HKS pod
filter (very flat).
3.5. My solution: 1. paid $49 to extend the warranty on the
kit because if dirt/rocks does wear out the blower. It's their
fault (very possible because I have dried dirt/water stains
in the area from last winters driving). 2. bought a foam
prescreen meant for shop vacs ($4) and wrapped it around
the metal screen so at least the big stuff is kept out (pictured below). PS. this stuff is handy. I used the left overs to use
as anti-rubbing/isolation around misc lines/wires and sharp
metal areas.
4. fuel lines. the nissan quick connectors were easy to disconnect / reconnect. the ati female quick connector
however was a b*tch to get on properly. scared the crap
out of me because it wouldn't fully lock and it wouldn't
come off either. Eventually, it did lock but I don't think it'll
come off now. Mine was probably a fluke since Z owners
haven't complained about this.
5. finally, the kit has both pcv lines connect at a T and routed
in front of the blower intake (without a breather filter at the
end of the line). After consultin the service manual on the
operation of both pcv lines (EC-635), I decided it was best,
and less lines to route, to simply put breather filters at both
pcv lines (can explain rational in more detail if needed)...
6. Stock FMU scale setting was way off (see my350z and
350zfrenzy sites for more info).
Well, that's about it. I got the missing ATI hose today and
will install once the kid gives me a break. Next is the breather
filters coming from kragen.com. Then its start up and cover
things up.

Re: g35c ati almost done
yes, if you move the ac lines, the HKS pod filter will fit.
It didn't do it because I thought the pre-screen would do
for now.
also, I was finally able to start the car after 3 weeks.
surprisingly, it didn't squeal. also, it wasn't as loud
as I was prepared for (due to videos).
only problem now is the bottom cover won't go back
on so I have to move the intercooler higher...

Re: g35c ati almost done
the inline air filter canister was hanging too low. If it wasn't
for that, everything will fit without any bulges or contact even
(thanks to my HD l brackets).
I moved things up and everything is closed now. Only the
canister causes a slight bulge...
for $250, I located a cool carbon fiber canister which will
much better than the stock one. the stock one has a simple
kn round cone filter which has very little clearance so I think
its the biggest restriction (when not on boost). I'll probably
wait until more people have the g ati and buy a group deal...
