Not sure if I ever read if the Vpro does the drive by wire? Since you have a rev up does the Vpro offer exhaust cam adjustments? It's expensive, the tuners are exclusive, the costs on the tuner side (licensing, training, etc) is also on the high side so getting a discount on the system will be very limited.

Autronic and MoTec > V-pro

Just my personal opinion. I've never been a fan of HKS products.

Sean,

Got your message this morning... Will hit you up later..

Congrats on the V-Pro!

Sean, Sean, Sean.... I am a little worried about you my brotha.. I am a little unsure as to why you want to drop so much into this car... Are you sure you can handle 550 hp? What are the reasons for going that route? Is it simply because you want it for the sake of saying you have it or do you plan on trackin the car or 1/4 mile runs?? Be careful when treking into this territory... TT w/ built motor is some serious poo and takes alot of homework. Make sure it is THE thing you want to do before droppin 15k on it! Just my .02 bro..

Ken,

Believe me, I have considered your concerns. That is why I am probably going to target the 450whp range and concentrate on reliability/drivability. If I wanted 550, then I would need head work/long block build (add another 4K).

Unfortunately, 15 K will only cover my engine build (upgraded short block) and TT. Clutch, wheels, V-Pro etc will take another 10K.

Fortunately, I am in a financial position to pull it off, although it is admitedly a lot of money, even for my fairly solid wallet. What it comes down to is that I will be spending about $300 dollars a week for my car habit over the next 7 years, which is how long I will keep this car.

My teaching job requires me to work at 3 campuses, 2 in the suburbs of Houston, but one is 30 miles out in the boonies (I get paid extra to teach the country kids). Besides the fact that the 19 year old country gals (whom I would never touch, of course...lol) are knockouts, and love having a "real New York trainined Professor" having an awesome car makes my job much more enjoyable, so I think it will be worth it. Those 30 miles are unfettered (IE WOT) country highway....yeeehaw!

Well, the more money the better, usually.

no, ... i'm still in iraq for a few more weeks....then i'll be back in san diego.

I have no 'solid' plans on what i'm doing with my G yet. I'm looking at either a SFR w/GT series turbos, APS Extreme or JWT TT kits (<-feel like a kid in a candy store! I can remember when I was little, my mom would say i had XX amount of money to spend, ... i would take ForEveR to decide on which candy to get! LOL! ).
Not sure if i'm doing the darton MID kit or not when i build my motor, ... that's another decision i'm trying to work out before i get back.

Coilovers are going to be either Tanabe, HKS or Zeal. I can't decide on Anything!! But it has a Lot to do with the fact that I am not in the States, .. i know once I get back i will be buying the first thing that comes to mind....
plus ATS triple clutch and carbon LSD...gotta get tires and all that jazz too...

i figure i'll spend plenty on this car within the next year or so, ... probably "too" much..... but oh well, ... it'll be HoT and you only live once! (being over here has also given me a new prospective on life...)

I like what you're doing. Good luck with your build. You seem to be making rational, well thought out decisons along the way. My inner child got in the way of mine.

Wow, sleeves and triple carbon fiber clutch....what whp are you shooting for? 600?

I am probable going to stay at 450...I will go w/ the Greddy because I would have to throw out half the stuff that comes w/ the APS....SGP has custon built so much stuff to go w/ the Greddy that getting the APS would be a waste. For example, they have designed a superior fuel return system, which is better than APS's etc.

They are suggesting an upgraded long block w/ ported heads in case I want to go over 500, but I think I will stay w/ the upgraded short block. The long block will add 4K. I will also probably go w/ an organic clutch. They are having success w/ a new organic clutch (better than the JWT) that should be good to 550. Carbon fiber triple will break the bank.

Do you think I will be satisfied w/ 450? The car is my daily driver, and I have never had a car w/ more than 400 whp.

With the build you're looking at, 500whp should not be a problem, without ported heads. I've been assured I can reach that with my APS TT and the included Unichip without major headwork. I may go with cams though. I think if you're anywhere between 450-500whp, you will love it!

You also really need to check out my350z's forced induction forum, you'll learn a lot about various options for your build and what your potential whp can be.

Brian,

I agree that 450-500 should be plenty.

I read my350z.com regularly.

I am being patient and trying to do things right. I about 6-8 months I should have a fantastic car that will hopefully last for 100K miles.
