Vortech - Silent Running

First let me say that I've been running FI for about 3K miles so far. Initially after my vortech unit was installed, there was noticeable gearlash noise as expected from a centrifugal SC. Since then I've retightened my crank belt once, loosened the SC cog belt once. That all seemed to lower the gearlash somewhat. Now that I put some more mileage on it seems that there is no gearlash at all. At a recent meet my interior noise was gauged at 82 db at idle. My only problem is that idle seems to buck bottom at times. Activating the Auto/AC/ Econ seems to do the trick. Happy with the vortech now that I've got some miles on it!

FYI,

X

I have noticed the same thing on mine actually. I have tightened my belt only once as well and have not touched the cog belt at all...

I had the idle rattle at first as well but noticed the other day it is much quieter now. I used to sit at stop lights with my left foot on the brake and right foot on the gas to get it to idle at 850... I no longer have to do that

When u cruising around town lower than 3K rpm, is it the blower making all the noise or the bypass valve venting all the time? It sounds like a jet engine and its getting annoying for local drives.

I am pretty sure that is the blow off valve venting since the air is not being held in the manifold to build up boost. Mine only sounds like a jet engine at a very limited rev range... If I dont want to hear it I just adjust my gear to get out of that rev range or slow down a bit / speed up...

Most of the time tho, I search for that rev range cuz I love that sound

thanks for the info, i might try those crank filters and see if it helps. I love the sound of the bypass valve when u let go the acceleration above 3K rpm but when driving at lo rpms it sounds like its sucking a lot of air.

thanks for the heads up. The pix is different from what brando has and its making me kind of worried that it might not fit.

Now I really need one bc my wife is freakin pissed at the noise, lol. I hope this thing will quiet the noise level down. The sound sort of reminds me of a car having bad brakes.

Cool

Well...it fit just fine on mine and was there for the first 6 mts. This pic shows it on there....
You think I'd try and send you something that doesn't fit?
Mine is the same size at the bottom but just stays round and does not neck down at the cap. Makes no difference that I could see.

But if you are "worried"....order the one from Vortech and be happy. I'll be happy to just keep mine.
