Best FI solution for changing climates

Well winter is approacting in many parts of the country and I'm curious to hear opnion on which FI solutions adapt best to the climate swing.

Is a retune typically necessary when there is a large temperature variance? or will the ECU adjust ok?

Because of the cold air, will the kit make more power in winter? I'm looking at solutions between 360 - 380 HP, the TN kit is #1 on my list so far.

If anyone has had their FI solution for a couple years in a climate with highs of 105 and lows of -20 (aka Chicago) your feedback would be great.

Thanks for the input.

bump - I'm also curious as I live in Wisconsin :frown:. Would it be better to get a pre-tuned system like the Stillen SC or TN ST (i think you can get that pre-tuned), or go with something that is adjustable (keeping in mind that i don't want to be constantly adjusting the A/F map every year)?

Regardless of FI kit, a good engine managment system (HKS FCON) has IAT (intake air tempature) compensation and will adjust the tune accordingly to the outside tempature. That is the problem with most piggybacks on the market, if they are tunned in the winter they wont preform properly in the summer and vice versa.

If you have any questions on a standalone EMS like the HKS FCon VPRO please feel free to ask.

I have the Vortech with SS box. I'm not ready to drop $4k on a EMS, so I told my tuner to tune conservatively to allow for weather changes, although this won't yield as much power as your AF will probably be in the low 11's for safety. Also, you could do a winter tune and a summer tune and then get a copy of the file and buy the R4 software. With a laptop, you can upload the tune in seconds. However, any mods to your car since the SC will need a new tune.

IMO the best FI kit for times like this would be a TT kit with a boost controller. You can go lost boost when it is hot and higher boost when it is cold. I love my Stillen but you can't make quick changes like that with temp or altitude changes.

Thanks George that is great info, I take it the stock EMS has intake temp sensing, and the HKS as well, what about inbetween? Do any of the turbo kits, jwt, tnetics, have this feature?

UTEC has a temperature correction function in their software for the 350z/g35.
