This issue came up in a converation I had with SGP and they told me that turbo timers are passe - there are not needed at all with turbo kits like APS.

If anyone knows for certain that this is incorrect, I would be interested in their information.

In general:

Cooling of the turbo can be done in your last minutes of driving, for the most part. In addition to that, 30 seconds is going to be enough to do the job after normal driving.

It's really going to be after hard runs and no cool-down that you'll want to run the turbo-timer for 2-3 minutes at most.

I had one on my modified '97 Mitsu. GSX (HKS Turbo Timer II or III?) and it worked fine. In truth, I often let it cool down longer than was ever needed, but I considered it a bit of added insurance for the aftermarket turbo.

This should be an easy choice. It should come down to money. If you can blow the money, it's a bit of insurance. If you'd rather save a couple of bones, just forget about it and sit in your car for a minute after driving.

I used to run my GSX hard all the time, and was usually late to work, so the timer had it's benefits.

FWIW, even though the car is locked and the timer has built-in security features, it still took some getting used to before I felt comfortable walking away from my car with it still running. No biggie by the end, but the timer doesn't do you any good if you're still hanging around your car until it shuts off.

TT are said to not be needed with water and oil cooled turbo's. But form the money the Blitz FAT DC II is great. It also has a digital boost gauge with peak hold. They are small and can be mounted anywhere.

The Clifford Matrix RSX 3.5 with autostart can be used as a turbo timer... can't say it's uncostly, but you do get an alarm with it though...

Just don't boost when you get close to your destination.. that's the best way to cool everything down..

Just an FYI since turbo timers came up---- If you use your AUTO setting on your headlights, installing a turbo timer will keep your car from shuting them off when you park the car.. Don't want anyone coming out to a dead battery.

Apexi, Greddy, HKS are all decently priced imo.. Just need the harness which is pita.

Really Cheap - Do it yourself. Wait in the car after driving for a minute.
Cheap - Greddy Turbo Timer, Less than $100.

Install an oil temperature sensor in the turbo return line and don't turn the car off until it lowers to the desired temperature....[212F]...........if it ever does?
