UTEC on OEM Navi
UTEC on OEM Navi
I finally got my UTEC to display it's data on my OEM navi screen ('04 coupe, fully built, APS TT).
The downside is that a laptop is required, the upside is that when I need the display I will most likely be dataloggin anyway, so my laptop will be there. The laptop is running software developed by Jason Mussetter (http://www.mpsav.com) and basically displays the output of the UTEC on the screen of a computer. I am using a generic Composite -> RGB adapter to display my laptop screen on my Navi screen.
To switch back and forth between OEM navi and UTEC info I am using a KPtechnologies 'navi ok bypass' module with AUX output capability. Besides processing the 'OK' disclaimer every time the car is started it also has a programmable output that can be activated through the 'OK' button. The module also features a 'beep' confirmation to let you know that it is working (more usable in other modes, but still kinda nice to have).
One vid is on the road, the other vid is parked and shows the entire start up procedure:

Looks good! That's the type of display info I'd want on my next FI project. I was looking to make a similar project if I added FI that would more generically monitor a set of various sensors and overlay them over top of the existing nav display. It looks like the data update rate is a bit high though for easy reading.
Ooo, an auxiliary output activated through the OK button? Nice.
Does it save the last toggle state too?

The programmable output was modeled after DEI's standard programmable output - toggle and toggle with ignition reset (I left out validity as I don't see a need for it in this application). It also has a 3rd option for use as the standard VSS bypass output that it has always had.
The update rate isn't bad, I guess I'm just used to it after looking at it for months and months. Before I had to look at it on my laptop on the front seat though, so this is definately an improvement.
If I can ever find the time I plan on making a stand alone data logger with RGB output for display on Navi screens. I really want my fuel pressure up there.

i think this is a great solution for people who have OEM navi and UTEC (should work nice for anybody that has an aftermarket navi too thru the composite input)
i think it would look nice if the screen color matched the OEM gauges (orange on black) to make it look more stock.... also is it possible to re-arrange the displayed parameters on the screen?

The software doesn't have many options along those lines. I'm sure though, that if it was really an issue the guy who wrote the software would make the requested changes for a small fee.
