Those who have a vortech need a little help

Had my vortech on my car for a few months now(it was used). Everything is fine, but lately I/ve been have this sound that sounds like a bad bearing. I believe its the pulley on the back side of the supercharger on the cog belt( the one you use to adjust the tension on the cog belt). I just wanted to know how tight should that cog belt be, I didn't have it too tight. I took the pulley off and it does feel like its going bad? Where can I get another bearing? And which way should that pulley face. There is a side with a snap ring and one side without. Which side should face the supercharger. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Why can't you contact vortech? I am sure they can find you a bearing; the price may suck though.

Out of curiousity: how many pounds of boost and are you modded internally?

Also, you posted in the wrong forum genius. That's why you are getting no responses. Have this thread moved to the FI forum under the Tech section.

In that video, that's just the dipstick grinding on the back of the cog pulley.....

BUt to answer the OP's questions....Vortech's are pretty loud.

My cog idler pully is as tight as it will go. Mine seems to be the quietest at this setting. I can still turn the pulley with palm pressure on the top.

I dont think it matters which way it is facing.

Haha, that was a video of my car. The bearings in the jackshaft went bad after less than 5k miles. Same thing happened to BeerViper. Replaced the bearings and the sound went completely away. When I took the old ones out, you could tell they were bad since the ***** inside the bearings were moving freely.

Try adjusting your bypass. I had a Vortec before switchng to TT. I thought one of the bearings was going bad. High pitch sound at lower rpms.

It ended up being the bypass valve. I adjusted and squeal went away.

Hey Dan_K

TheTECH over at My350 is having trouble with his jackshaft bearings . He has a couple threads started about it . He wants to know if you can take the jackshaft off the bracket ? And if the jackshaft is pressed onto the bracket ?

I just changed from the stock 3.33 pulley to the 3.12.

To get it off, you have to remove the jack shaft assembly from the bracket plate, as the pulley will not clear the snail.

Simple to remove the bolts from the rear.

thats not how I changed pulleys , but good to hear the jackshaft comes off and on with out having to have it pressed on .

I just loosened up the blower from the bracket , to get the pulley off .

This is "THE TECH" from my350z. Booger sent me here.

Vortech told me that some part of the jackshaft assembly had to be pressed onto the mounting plate. Is this not true? Have you taken off the entire jackshaft assembly and reassembled it??

So far Superchargersonline also tells me that it disassembles and reassembles with no probs. It just bothers me that two different people at Vortech tell me that something has to be pressed onto the mounting plate.

I will be ordering all the jackshaft parts tomorrow to replace all the parts there now.

If your kit isnt to old , it will be covered . Calling them will answer the question though.

new cog pulley... my friend had the same problem... the cog pulley vortech sent was off by a hair causing it to come loose and make a horrible noise... he got the new cog pulley and now it sounds fine...here is a pic of the pulleys... bad one is on the left... you can see how it was not manufactured evenly and how bad it is off...look at the top part of the open end... sorry for the blurry image...
