GReddy turbo kit
GReddy turbo kit
Hey all,
This is my first post to this forum and I have to say, it seems to be a much more informative group then FA.
Anyways, I just ordered the GReddy turbo set up and was wondering if any one at this site has installed it yet.
I did read a post about the pros and cons of the GReddy versus the PE system and I need to say up front, I am happy with the GReedy system.
If you have installed the turbos sytem, which exhaust are you using? I have not bought an exhaust system at this time.
Any helps or hints would be appreciated!

Re: GReddy turbo kit
Carlos,
Actually the kit is out now. I should have it in about a week. A freind of mine owns a speed shop and he ordered from an import company out of cali. They had 5 kits and I got the last one.
Unfortunetly, the kit does not have an intercooler as advertised in i-m site. I called GReddy and they do not have an intercooler as part of the kit.... yet.
I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $6300 for the kit

Re: GReddy turbo kit
So the Greddy its DON"T have an intercooler. That's what i heard from a lot of people, but was confused about it when saw the desription on the i-m-racing site.
I was told that the kit is ~$6500 without an IC. That makes the PE kit a lot more attractive. The SOLE advantage of greddy is Carb certification. but I also heard that the Carb certified kit (w/o IC) only pushes 310hp at the wheels. That's about 4-5 psi boost!. That's a waste of $6500+install (around $2000). Also, it is clear that the kit does not have a fuel pressure regulator (just some FMU), so you will find yourself playing with that FMU as much as with the clutch pedal. Well ok, a little exaggerated! But the FMu is ust not the right way of doing a FI system.
The great thing about PE is that the perfectly tuned, cutom A/F and timing maps are flashed into the ECU. you don't just have to dump more fuel to the mixture to prevent detoation... You will have a perfect (~11.5) mixture at ful boost (7.2 psi) with the prefect timings for it, so pre-detonation will NEVER be an issue.
The PE kit also has lighter turbos (spool up a lot faster) as well as a high-capacity oil Pan (+1 extra liter ~1 extra quart).

The PE 1420 turbos will also support 650HP, with the Greddy TD05-18G turbos only supporting 425HP...Not that everyone that is going FI wants to hit 600HP with internal mods, but I plan on getting all the power I can safely extract

Re: GReddy turbo kit
How hard is it to put a fuel pressure regulator into the system? It does not sound like this would be that much of an issue.
As for the flash, the GReedy system can be tuned to produce as much as 400 hp to the rear wheels, at least that what is being claimed by GReedy and by my mechanics. If this is not true, I may need to make some changes before we start tearing into the engine.
Where can I find more info on the PE system?

Re: GReddy turbo kit
installing a fuel pressure regulator is very easy. you can either use it along with the factory FPR or replace it with a new one. just remember to set it at the correct PSI. FPR goes around from $100~200
