Re: Nitrous on G35C - Ordered

WHOA!!!! Hold Up Bro

U gotta take that plenum off before the nitrous or your engine will become one hell of a paper weight!!!
The plenum has caused a lot of people to run extremely lean, and sometimes to rich. It is inconsistant too... many people on my350z have detonated their engine when combining FI and the plenum or Nitrous and the plenum!

Sorry for the bad news bro...
I have been planing my nitrous system too for a little while but no cash at the minute to fund it!

I would not use those Zex spark plugs... heard many bad things about them gunking up and breaking off and messing up the engine real bad! I have heard good things about the denso iridium +1 or +2 colder depending on your shot.

Damn.. sorry for more bad news but you'll have to get the ecu changed again too! Technosquare increases the timing so that you can pull more power out of the naturally aspirated engine.. but with FI or Nitrous you'll need to retard the timing if anything... the ecu will cause detonation!

Here is what a fellow g35er with nitrous wrote to me about nitrous in my search for info on it.....

1. Zex Wet Kit (pn 82021); MSD Window Switch (pn 8951) HOLD OFF ON THIS!; SPX-Kentmore Fuel Adapter (pnJ44321-4) phone number: 800 345-2233; Denso Iridium's 1-step colder (pn IKH20) or 2-steps colder for more than 100 or 125-shot (pn IKH22); Zex remote bottle opener.

2. I have run zex on 2 civics, 1 integra, and now my G. Never had any problems ever! Super easy to install, parts seem like good quality except for their spark plugs. I wouldn't go with anyone other than Zex except for maybe Nitrous Express. With NOS, there are too many parts and its a pain to install. You'll have solenoids all over the place. For me, I went with a stealth install so you wouldn't be able to tell the nitrous is there. Its much easier to hide one box than it is to hid multiple axwkware solenoids. But if you want to display it nice and pretty, the purple box just looks kewl too.

Some additional thoughts, you may want to consider a A/F guage or 2, a nitrous pressure guage, and bottle heater. The jet ratings from Zex aren't alway accurate, but they are really close. A good A/F guage will tell you if your running to rich or lean. that = kaboom. The nitrous pressure guage tells you if you have spray left in the bottle and what the pressure is. The higher the pressure, the more powerful the shot is. The bottle warmer heats the bottle to get the pressure way up to get a better shot. These things aren't necessarily, but honestly help a lot. If money is an issue, you can always phase these in later.

Other thoughts, hmm....
Almost every step of the way, I ran into some kind of issue, like needed to replace the o-ring on the fuel damper when I got the adpater from SPX. I would get 2 from the local nissan deal (don't get it from infiniti because you don't want them to know your messing around, also pay in cash). Also with the SPX adapter, you have to unscrew the 4AN adapter that comes with it and use the one that comes with the Zex kit. The MSD unit has been a nightmare, mine is at MSD right now getting some work done on it. Wait until I guinne pig it first.

The car will definitely will definitley take the 75-shot. I am running up to 150-shot with no issues. Clutch is holding up. Anything above that, the clutch will start to slip. People are running a 200-shot with just a clutch replacement. I wouldn't if I were you. If you want to go past 75-shot, you'll have to use either Nitrous Express (NX) jets or Zex jets -> DO NOT USE NOS JETS = KABOOM. Zex somethimes doesn't have the right size you'll need so you'll have to go with NX. You can use one step colder plugs unless you go over 100. I am using 1-step colder when running the 125 and 150-shots, but I wouldn't recommend it. I would bump up to 2-step colder plugs if you go that high. actually, 125-shot on 1-step colder seemed to go ok.

The install went pretty well, it was easy to hook up. If you have specific questions, let me know. I did some things a little different than the directions that worked out better for me.

If you are interested in a stealth install, let me know. I have taken my car to the dealer several times with the nitrous installed and they haven't noticed (but I did take out the Z-tube (10 minute switch).

Its probably easier for you to meet up with me and I can just over over what I did and show you so it makes sense.

Hope this helps. Also, buy some super glue, fuel damper o-rings from nissan, thread sealant (auto parts store) don't use teflon), some electrical tape, maybe some extra wire, and make sure you have all the tools before you start. Also, you;ll need some plastic spacers and some new bolts to bolt on the SPX fuel adapter from home depot. THere is a lot of little stuff that you'l need to get. Even though it was technically easy, it took me a while to get everything installed because I kept having to figure out how to address the issues and then go get the parts. Had to spend a couple days without being able to drive from a fuel leak. When your done, go to morosso and run the car to get your 1/4 mile time. I have been the last couple of fridays, but was unable to run for various reasons. Last friday was the last day of the year. Looks like I'll have to wait until January.

Hope this helps some. I am putting the install off for a few months till funds recover, and then there will be better info out about the g35 and nitrous!

Peace

Nice post.. Most of the points are right on. I dont agree with the Plenum being a problem thoo... There are plenty of dynos with good A/F ratios. It doesnt realy add air. All it realy does is even out the air to the front 2 cylnders.. I will be going with the ZEX kit in the spring and get to do all this fun stuff.. Happy spraying and please post pics and impressions when done..

Re: Nitrous on G35C - Ordered

It is the way the air flows around inside the new plenum that causes certain cylinders to run lean ocasionally...(i forgot which ones) And because it allows in much more air it becomes very lean very quickly! Especially with a high forced induction that may place more pressure into certain cylinders based upon the modded plenum... read on my350z.com about the handfuls of cars g's and z's that have been ruined by this mod coupled with especially the ATI procharger!

As long as you dyno (A/F) tune, you should be able to select jets that don't cause you to go lean.

Re: Nitrous on G35C - Ordered

Iv been on My350z.com for about a year and have not seen ANY wrongs by the Plenum.. So you feel better that your front 2 cylinders getting 35% LESS air then the other 4? I think that the original design is very poor and feel the crawford does a nice job fixing it.. And why are you bring FI into this??? This thread is about spray which does not FI air.. The Procharger is a VERY diffrent story and people are blow motors with and without due to bad tuning/install.. But with the Plenum there are NO know cases of the plenum directly causing the car to run lean.. If I am wrong please provide the link. Im not bashing i just want people to get the right info and not have to hold back because of some wrong words.. So with a shot that big you BETTER get a good dyno and get you A/F ratio with and without spray..
