Custom Front Mount CAI for Vortech!!!

Well here it is. I have been wanting to mount the Filter right above the intercooler while keeping the piping as short as possible, still trying to get it to look as good as it can & give me some better water protection. I cut the rad. support...yes I said it!! I cut it. Just a few dremel hours...It is a real tight fit and I still had to use the Duct Hose with one polished bend and a straight 3" silicone hose. With a bigger air filter. Here are some of the pics. Any comments are welcomed, as there is really no going back. Eventually I am going to try to wrap up the duct hose so that I can pull it out with out bending and take it to a shop that can bend or make some piping to match the bends and get it polished to match. Everyone enjoy!!

^^

^^I still a 4" hose clamp to clamp the two silicone hoses together.

Compared to the way vortech sends it, YES. 1. Gas Mileage does get better (hard to believe) 2. Acceleration and throttle feels alot crisper. May just be me, but there is a difference. Now its time to go get a retune.

Good Job!....

I am looking at doing something similar but I am going to re-route the AC lines and go straight thru the front only utilizing one bend.

I want to do this, just haven't had the time to R&D it...want to mount it behind the front bumper above the intercooler as well. Need to source some piping. So the opening off the Vortech is 4"?

seems like it would do more harm than good with all the turbulence created by flex piping. Any way you can use some of that other flex tubing that has a smoother inner area?

Will, the opening is 4". Just alittle hard to get 4" anything in the tight space. Would have to re-route the ac lines some how.

Redlude97-If you could let me know what flex tubing your talking about. I would want to look into it.

Could you take a picture of your a/c lines. I pushed mine out to the side as much as I felt safe doing. Would be interesting to see how you did yours.

sorry i dont think i can get a picture of it since its blocked off now. but the a/c lines are pretty much flat now, so the whole area is exposed. i was able to just mount the intake on the blower and go right outside to the grill with a filter on it.

the a/c lines are now under the piping as opposed to leaning on the side/top of it, if that helps clarify.

nice install man. i dropped my filter (new one) down but the driver side vent on the bumper. almost like we all used to do "cold air" . car breaths really good in the mid section of the RPM band. i was going to do what you did but you can see the filter through my gialla grill and didnt look right. good stuff man.

How safe is it to bend the ac lines? Does it block the ac flow in any way?

All I can say is becareful of where you bend them. Make sure the rubber hose is not hitting any moving parts.....
