Cheaper Turbo Setup?
Cheaper Turbo Setup?
Is it cheaper to build a turbo kit by piecing together a turbo, intercooler, injectors, etc through ebay and having the piping fabricated, or buying a turbo kit? I am only looking at getting a single turbo setup and want to find the best price on parts. I know this is not something to go cheap on but I feel as though better prices could be found through ebay, is this the case?
Many have tried and till this day I haven't seen anyone besides a Shop actually produced one. I know there was one who did a custom kit but his car blew a few thousand miles. If you have access to a mandrel bend and a shop that can do all the trial and error then more power to you. Just think about all the labor and parts
yet you can buy a ST Brand New for around $5000 Complete with EMS (Utec), 440cc inj...etc all included with WARRANTY on parts!

The words CHEAP and TURBO do not go together, atleast not with G35's. Look in the market place for a used turbo, that is your best bet, and you will find some good deals. Also look on My350z, alot of people on there are FI, and change kits alottt.
your best bet is to find a used turbonetics kit and take your chances for all the parts to be there. from experience, save up and do it right or it will cost you the same or more to do it the wrong way.
thanks
thanks
It might be a fraction cheaper but, your giving up any kind of warranty that you would get with a retail kit. Also, homemade turbo kits on VQs usually equal lots of headaches. As noted, a competent shop could do it but, you'll also pay alot of money in labor so, its probably better to buy a used kit that is in good conditon.

I really think even at $6500 for a JWT TT kit is very inexpensive compared to other cars out there.
The problem I am finding with searching and considering a G35, is the cost to get over 400rwhp safely. The engine is weak, then you are talking $7k, unless you have connections, just to get a bottom end to hold up, which is crazy expensive for a Nissan...

ebay turbo kit=FAIL
Do it right or don't do it. Like someone already said CHEAP and TURBO are not words that go hand in hand. If you can't do it right, don't do it at all or else it's gonna cost you 2x-3x as much to fix a blown engine and rebuild the right way.

I have a custom kit and it's hard to ask anyone questions about it because it is not known. (parts & piping wise)
I can only call the shop that produced it if there are any serious problems which is a headache.
I'm happy with my kit because it's different. I wished I would of waited a couple of months longer for the other kits to iron out their problems.
I probably would have a greddy or aps tt now.
I bought my kit Nov 05 and back then people were blowing their engines left and right, but now it is way different.
GTM, FP, MRC, and PF have seen about anything that can go wrong with the mainstream (popular kits) so you will have support.
Where as back then they were just learning themselves about the problems of going FI with the VQ improperly.
I would suggest a used TN or Greddy TT (for big power) or if your worried about your engine get a vortech.
The torque in a SC doesn't hit as hard as a turbo.
Hope this helps you out with your decision.
