stock bumper ok for intercooler

i'm looking at getting the greddy tt kit but not sure if i just bite the bullet and spend more and get the jwt kit because the intercooler is meant for the oem front like the aps is

and the greddy is just a normal rectangle and will be blocked somewhat by the oem ......someone wanna help me??

or should i be fine and i'm just worrying too much?? i'd rather not get a new bumper

You could put fans on your FMIC like the TN kit but otherwise it wouldn't be smart to run the oem bumper with an FMIC. I think forged ran a test and found the fans with the shroud put more air through than an open bumper and no fans.

If you can afford the JWT, do it. The intercooler that comes with the kit works well with the OEM bumper. I have the JWT 700bb, but I changed to the Nismo bumper.

anyone know if i can just by the jwt intercooler and use the greddy kit?...or does anyone just sell the intercooler to fit a oem bumper?

I had the stock bumper in the summer and when I swap to a Top Secret bumper, my IAT drop at least 15F. Oem Bumper definitely will affect your IAT and it defeat the purpose of having a FMIC if Air is not getting through to cool it.

you can get the greddy kit with speed force racing intercooler

Getting an IC is one thing but fabricating the piping is another thing. Are you prepared to spend some $$$ on making it fit? Unless you are dead serious on keeping the Stock Bumper then getting a new bumper that has a much better Air Flow will be cheaper and not to mention will perform better. Even with the JWT FMIC and your stock bumper, I don't think you will get MAX Air Flow since the stock bumper only have a small opening. Oh, those twin FMIC are not cheap either.

If you get the Greddy intercooler, you will have to remove the aluminum structural bumper. Kind of scary driving around with nothing but the intercooler to stop someone from running into your engine.

so theres no support??? besides the radiator support?? no bumper gaurd or fiberglass/styrofoam guard?

GreenGoblin Feb 8, 2008 01:28 PM

http://www.speedforceracing.com/ you can retain all the supports and keep the stock bumper about the same price as the greddy intercooler. 1400- 1500

TURBOTOM Feb 8, 2008 06:15 PM

nfo184, where are you getting the install done?

str8dum1 Feb 8, 2008 09:51 PM

ya but you'll need another 5-800$ for the custom piping tomatch up with a greddy kit.

i am in the same boat, starting to deisgn my own kit and probably going with a Nismo bumper down the road, my question is, if you do go with SFR kit, would that affect the performance of the kit? IE to much piping and loss of pressure? (sorry sort of new to this, trying to learn as much as possible)

+1 You really have to be dead set on sticking with the OEM bumper or the nismo bumper to get the twin intercooler setup for a Greddy kit. If you want that FMIC then you might as well go get th JWT kit coz the IC itself plus custom piping will not be worth it IMHO.
