Vortech Kit Black Box - How to Tune it?

Hi Guys,

Just imported a Vortech kit from Performance Factory for my 03 Auto V35 skyline and am about to install it this weekend. Im impressed by the kit and its attention to detail, however the unknown for me is this black box which i believe controls the ignition timing and fuel and takes a vacuum input.

Now, in the manual it states to use 91RON or better fuel, fortunately we have 98RON here in Australia so I dare say I should see a bit better performance. Now, my few questions are:

1) Does the box come pretuned to a safe level for a standard G35?
- Am i correct in assuming that it alters the ignition so that it retards it as boost increases (reading vaccuum input) as opposed to advancing like it the standard ECU does?
2) If yes to Q1, does that mean I should be safe to drive it sedately to a dyno to get AFR's looked at?
3) What software can you use to interface with the black box? Ive seen that it has a serial port but I have no idea what software to use.

I think i should be able to extract a fair bit more power out of the standard blackbox tune since we have better fuel here... fingers crossed!

Oh also I pulled 222HP at the rears in Forced Induction Shoot Out mode on a Dyno Dynamics dyno yesterday. I am Auto, Have hearders, intake, exhaust and plenum spacer.

Cheers!
JK

Vortech SS box does come pre-tuned but it is very conservative. Having said that, you can drive your car to you tuner without a problem, just make sure stay away from boost.

You will need the software to tune it . If your tuner has never seen the software , he will need to call Split Second or find some one that knows a couple of things that need to be done first
