Overboosting my Greddy kit.

Hey everyone- It may be my set up, but I figured I'd ask.

I've got two set up pretty much on one tune.

1. Closed E-cut outs (2.5" downpipes through a modified stillen exhaust)
2. Open 2.5" ecutouts (Pretty much straight out of the test pipes)

Now I'm tuned for the E-cut outs...

1. Boost when they are closed underwot- highest - 10.2psi
2. highest boost when they are open 9.89psi

It seems like it may be getting worse- and its like 90* here too.

I'm using a AEM tru Boost and its set at like 9PSI-- seeing .33 overboost was normal.

Any ideas ?DOMO Domo on

PS - I don't like over boosting to 10psi on a stock block.

Are you talking about creep or spike? Most AT guys do get a spike when going to the next gear because you guys never lift your gas pedal. Lots of AT owner have problem with boost spike but it is very short lived and the motor isn't really on heavy load at that point... If it is a boost creep then that is different story.

Its more of a spike- its hard to really notice. I know it will AT LEAST go over a little while on load. but Spikes hard when I left off the gas.

I use the max boost option on the tru boost to see what im spiking to.

I wouldn't trip. I hit 9.1 with cutouts closed, and peaked at 10.2 with cutouts open when it nice and cold. the hks evc 6 helped a lot and It steps down the boost when u overboost compared to the utec or manual boost controller that just works based on rpm and wastegate percentage.

Your numbers seem fine. I have seen variations of 1-2psi between different gauges, and our dyno. Looks like your boost is pretty darn stable. Just lower the boost with your AEM boost controller, if you feel it's a tad high.

i agree with sharif. I feel boosting 10psi on a stock motor is driving on borrowed time, imo. some people blow their motors, some don't. i would lower your boost. btw, i ran with 10psi on my single aps setup, but; 1. i knew the tune was solid and 2. i knew i was building the motor in 6-12months. edited for clarity

your fine, people need to stop pulling out what they want to see in posts. your fine, if u want to turn it down, does not mean your on borrowed time. just don't redline it every second everywhere you go. the heat will actually probably reduce the overboost but you need to worry about detonation at some point.

Everything feels completely solid- My tune is definitely solid- AF is always where I want it. I know I'm not driving on borrowed time- and its funny that this 'bullitproof' guy put those words into sharif.

Thanks for the help guys

This 'guy' was was agreeing with what sharif said in his previous post, not putting words in his mouth anytime you boost a motor that wasnt designed for f/i you take a chance on popping your motor. don't believe me, head over to my350 and do your homework. and i wasnt talking about your tune i was speaking of my own so stop taking it personal.
