Darkside...Here I Come. My Official Motor Build Thread

So as most people who know me know I have been flirting with the idea of going forced induction since I had gotten my G35. Hanging around a few people here on the threads that are FI'd made me even more determined to going FI'd. But then after reading and hearing the horror stories of blown motors, it just shattered hopes of FI'd on a stock motor. So I opted to do it and do it right the first time. I have a good sense of what is needed to be done since I have had quite a few built Honda motors but I am still open to suggestions. But let the build began. Here is the motor I picked up up....2005 VQ motor 23k, so let the fun began

Eric you have the motor in your house...LOL I used to keep my Harley in my house in the winter and I thought I was the only sick bastard that did stuff like that...

So what do you have planned for the build? single, twins or s/c?

JOKER 07-13-2008 07:12 PM

how much was the motor?

Hi-TechG35 07-13-2008 07:26 PM

:icon17: LMAO yep so need to be running back and fourth to the garge when I can just work in the other free room aka the parts department.
For the build I plan on doing sleeves, rods, pistons, fuel return, ...etc. You the normal so that you can run safe. I havent decided if I am going to do twins or single being that I've seen reviews of the Turbonetics kit putting out the same or just as much as the twins.

I highly reccomend not sleeving the motor on a street driven car. Also you will not achieve a fraction of the power with a TN kit as you would with any twin kit on a built motor. If your going single choose a Powerlabs Kit...Which we are East Coast dealers for (cheap plug):icon38:

Skaterbasist 07-13-2008 09:57 PM

Wow, talk about a connection

Looks like you have a fun journey ahead!

PS. Why sleeve a Turbonetics kit? I only see very high powered VQ's with sleeved built motors.

.

you really don't need to sleave the vq at all unless you are aiming at above 700 whp. You also don't need a fuel return system. Just run the JWT FMU along with the EMU you decide to use and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the advise about the sleeving guys. I guess I will just drop the sleeving then. Any other recomendations? I guees I was so used to mid 400hp Civic and sleeving blocks it just came as a natural.

Like Viet said, spend a lot of time on my350z.com. Those guys over there are very knowledgeable for the most part. Good luck with your build bro.

Boost is fun, just respect it. Take the build slow, and learn as much as you can.
