Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

This is an email i sent to EverythingG35 regarding the Stillen Supercharger, just thought i would let everyone know what they said. Here is what i asked them:

Interested in the Stillen intercooled and non-intercooled supercharger for my G35 coupe. Was wondering if you could give me more information about the superchargers 3yr/36000 mile engine warranty?

What exactly does this cover?

What doesn't it cover?

How does it affect my current warranty with my local Infiniti dealer?

Is the intercooled supercharger the only one that comes with this warranty or do the non-intercooled ones come with it as well?

Approximately how much would it cost to ship this product to NY?

Last but not least, what is the shipping cost of the OEM chin spoiler?

Thank you for your time in answering my questions.

Their response:

The warranty is an aftermarket warranty that's offered by Dell Finanacial, through Stillen.

It covers the supercharger and engine components. The rest of the car would still be covered under the normal factory warranty, unless otherwise modified with additional parts.
You can purchase the warranty with the intercooled or non-intercooled kit.
Shipping on the supercharger kit would run somewhere around $20-30, depending if you wanted the intercooled version. The hood would be seperate and run quite a bit for shipping, due to the size. It'd probably be about $75 shipping for the hood, due to the fact that it's oversized and has to go via truck carrier.

Shipping on the OEM chin spoiler would be right around $30.

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

The fact that it comes with a warranty makes this product much more enticing IMO since the warranty is my biggest concern.

Some additional questions...

Do I need to replace the clutch?
Do i need to replace the flywheel?
Do I need to get different tires to put the newfound power to the wheels? What is recomended?

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

Sorry, one last question.

What can be done about the hood? I feel like i'm being ripped off if buying the Stillen cowl hood is required and the price is about 1000 bucks. Can the stock hood be modified? At what cost?

Thanks guys,

Evan

Why not just buy the Stillen Supercharger and hood from Stillen? Would it be cheaper?

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

You don't have to buy a new hood. You can just buy a cowl for your stock hood, and cut it in. The cowl is relatively small, and probably can ship via UPS. Look at all your options on the Stillen website: www.stillen.com. Stillen has 5 options for you...

18" SSR GT1/Bridgestone PP S03
Eibach Springs/Sways, Stillen 2-pc BBK
Stillen SS Cat-Back Dual Exhaust System

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

IMO the only enticing part of this S/C is the warranty...
Nothing else is great about it..
The HP gains are gettin spanked by the others
The extra "hey mod your hood" or no S/C
and the or Buy a new Hood....thing....then paint if you want the matchin color....I dont want a big black hood on my Red coupe!!!
all for more than the cost and much less performance then any thing else on the market in the way of S/C and T/C

Come on Stillen....throw the damn hood in for Free...
you are givin us like 70 more HP ......and I gotta cut up my hood then paint....F-that!

But hey here's a warranty....that suppose to make it all better...
LOWER THE DAMN COST....!!
The whole thing plus install, tuning and Hood should be like $5.5K

ANYWAYS WHO BOUGHT THIS THING IS what I wanna know????

Most people that I heard got the ATI or Vortech....

Lexus for my luxury and G35 Coupe for my speed. I must say...Life is not always a B!TCH

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

hey i browsed stillen's website...and they added a stage 3 s/c....this is said to have 405 bhp...wouldn't those numbers be able to hang with the vortech s/c? wouldn't 405 bhp be almost equal to the 360-370 rwhp that the vortech is producing? and plus it has the warranty....

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

I found this my350Z post from Alex interesting. I was surprised at the torque and horsepower numbers. And yes, better tuning shoulda, coulda, woulda made a difference for each of the superchargers.

__________________________________________________ __________________________

These are the numbers from the Dyno Shoot Out that we performed with Sport Z Magazine. Please note that these numbers are straight off of the dyno charts. The dyno charts get a bit messy to read when all of the lines cross each other. So, this should help. You can see from this that if you are looking for everyday driving performance in normal RPM ranges - which system provides the best performance. If you are drag racing with gears that allow you to operate at very high rpms, or like the peak gains, then the other units will be of interest to you. They each have their merits.

..............Baseline........Stillen @ 7psi......Prochgr @ 7psi.....Vortec @ 8psi
RPM.......HP/Torque.........Hp/Torque..........Hp/Torque..........Hp/Torque...........RPM
6500......228 / 187...........325 / 264...........350 / 281..........335 / 272............6500
6000......240 / 210...........320 / 280...........338 / 296..........328 / 287............6000
5500......238 / 227...........308 / 292...........312 / 294..........298 / 283............5500
5000......223 / 234...........288 / 302...........282 / 298..........268 / 281............5000
4500......204 / 238...........258 / 299...........248 / 287..........245 / 284............4500
4000......176 / 232...........228 / 300...........212 / 280..........212 / 277............4000
3500......152 / 229...........199 / 297...........178 / 268..........178 / 267............3500
3000......130 / 228...........168 / 293...........148 / 256..........144 / 252............3000
2500......105 / 221...........135 / 285...........115 / 239..........111 / 237............2500
2200.......90 / 218............118 / 282..........100 / 234............97 / 234............2200

Reported peak horsepower and torque values:
Baseline:....242.5 hp @ 5800 rpm 239.4 ft/lbs @ 4600 rpm
Stillen:.......338.2 hp @ 6600 rpm 302.6 ft/lbs @ 4200 rpm
Prochgr:.....353.7 hp @ 6600 rpm 300.5 ft/lbs @ 4800 rpm
Vortec:.......344.8 hp @ 6300 rpm 298.7 ft/lbs @ 5900 rpm

Also, please remember that while these results are posted, each vehicle will vary to a certain extent due to OE manufacturer differences, dynos and production tolerances. These run with Carl Merrit of Sport Z Magazine driving each car on the dyno. Same day.

Hope this helps decipher the gains for these systems. The question is where do you want to experience the gains.

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

Ahh wouldn't that be nice ...too bad Stillen posts this in the stage 3 S/C section....key word here is VOID

****PLEASE NOTE This pulley will VOID your optional 3 yr / 36,000 mile Engine warranty and your Supercharger is no longer C.A.R.B legal.****

AND YOU STILL GOTTA CUT UP OR Change your hood!!
Like I said ...Drop the price Stillen..

I mean the ATI and Vortech have no warranties but hey....I dont have to chop my hood up or change it and still pay to get it installed.

Lexus for my luxury and G35 Coupe for my speed. I must say...Life is not always a B!TCH

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

I gotta say this

The Stillen SC is NOT tunable! You are pretty much stuck with what you get. But, it is a solid system to the extent that it is safe and insured, as well as set it and forget it design. It is the design that I do not like - they do NOT upgrade the injectors, use a 7th injector to meet the fuel demand, they do NOT modify the ECU to optimize the timing - thye just crudely drown the cylinder with a lot of fuel to prevent detonation. It does simplify the design though, but as far as I am concerned, at what cost?

One other thing, the Vortech system was NOT very well tuned IMO in that shootout. So take those numbers with a grain of salt. Talk to Steve (zimbo) - he has got a ver ywell tuned Vortech on his sedan from waht I can tell.

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

I don't have an SC but if I did then the Stillen would be my choice. It may not be tunable but you get a few things for those dollars you spend:
-A package from a well known Nissan tuner that has been in business for years.
-CARB exemption which is important in CA for smogging in four years without having to risk going the illegal route that can land you/smog shop in serious trouble
-Something that you can leave on the car when you trade it in or sell it. Try trading in your G35 with a Vortech or Procharger on it and see what the dealer says.
-A real warranty backed by a reputable group that most likely is still going to be around if you have problems.

Re: Here is some info on the Stillen Supercharger

All very valid points... and I agree with you on most points...

Vortech has been in business for a LONG time and is a VERY reputable SC makers. Also, just because something that is NOT carb exempt does NOT mean that it will not pass smog. In fact, if you do NOT change the cams, the fuel mixture/timing is the only thing to keep in check. And they are not really drastically altered with an ECU upgrade, certainly they run a lot leaner than a stock timing (like stillen) FI device would have to run to keep from detonating.

Either way, different strokes for different folkes... that's why there is a variety of products... As you said, it is a good plug-n-play solution that is street legal and has more value that the other SCs b/c of the possible warranty. But it is BY FAR not the best solution, not to mention the ugly/required hood mod that is absolutely necesary and adds about $600-1000 (depending on type) to the price.
