Vortech install Done 352.58 RWHP

After months of planning and over 1 week in the shop the install is finally done.
============================
Car: 2003 - G35 AT Coupe - Fully Loaded
============================
Dyno at VSV Performance
352.58 RWHp
289.87 Torque
Air/Fuel: 11.65
Outside Temp: HOT 96.16 F
============================
Install Shop:
Grubbs Infiniti – Dallas
Many thanks to John in Service
============================
Modifications:
Vortech SC
9 LB Pulley – w/ 3 Year warrantee *
Crawford Plenum
Borla Dual
NGK copper plugs
Technosquare Custom ECU program
Auto Meter - Boost & Air Fuel Gauge
Grounding kit
Skyline badges
============================
Estimated Cost for all modification: $ 9,500.00 +/-
============================
* For all the current users with Vortech SC systems that are concerned about upgrading the pulley system to get more PSI, I have some good news. John at Grubbs Infiniti called and spoke with the President of Vortech and was instructed how it increase the SC from 8 PSI to 9 PSI and not void the 3 year warrantee. To put this into numbers everyone can relate to, I gained 19 RWHp with the pulley change and only paid $250 for the parts and labor to install the new components.
============================
As far as performance I could not be happier, the system runs like a scolded ape. During hard acceleration the SC kicks in about 1900rpm’s and pulls until my redline 7200rpm (thanks Technosquare). During normal driving conditions it performs like a champ, almost as if the SC is not installed. About the only telling sign other drivers on the road notice is the SC’s occasional whistle.
============================
Many thanks to the others on this forum who pioneered/tested the products so that people like myself could benefit from it.

Re: Vortech install Done 352.58 RWHP

NIce setup, DFW

Some questions.

Is this the ortech verison 2, or the old version 1?
You are not concerned with 9psi on stock internals? Be very careful. Having done the TechnoSquare ECU is definitely the right move, good thinking...
Did you upgrade the injectors to the PE 380cc ones? What did you do for fuel management?
Are you not using the splitsecond box that comes with Vortech now that you have a reflashed ECU?

Thanks.
Gurgen

Re: Vortech install Done 352.58 RWHP

1. I am not sure on the version please tell me how I can verify.

2. The next step will be for me to upgrade the injectors.

3. For the fuel management I am using the splitsecond in conjunction with the Technosquare flash. I had them put back stock fuel / timing and leave the rest of the benefits of the ECU flash.

Any additional suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Vortech install Done 352.58 RWHP

Ahhh, i see now. I thought you had gone the ful , no-splitsecond/piggyback route. That is by FAR the most reliable way to go IMO. But for that, you need to do the following:

1. Upgrade your fuel pump to the Walbro 255lph (~$100) that replaced the stock in-tank pump very nicely.
2. Get a fuel pressure regulator (PE makes one) ($?) - you may already have one - check.
3. Get PE 380CC injectors ($900).

You should be able to get all that installed for around $300 or so at a reasonable shop rate.

The FPR will makes sure that you do not run rich at idle while providing you with a much higher available peak fuel pressure to feed your injectors. I am not sure how you are running 9psi without upgraded injectors ... i guess my cranking up the fuel pressure. Be careful, make sure you do not exceed the rated maximum fp for the stock injectors. TechnoSquare already has the map to control the PE 380cc's, so you will be able to get the correct TS reflash and just disconnect your splitsecond altogether (if you wanted to).

9psi is very high for stock internals, regardless of what your well-meaning installer says. It also doesn't seem like you are real sure of what your a/f ratios are. I would make sure it is at or below 11.5. You also MUST retard timing at that psi level to be safe, trust me.

I appreciate you help:

Does it matter that the Vortech system came with an auxiliary fuel pump that was installed?

Yeah the aux fuel pump takes care of that... and it seem like you are not starving for fuel on the top end. Your A/F curve looks a bit jaggedy for my taste, but i guess that's what happens with the splitsecond/aeromotive piggybacks of the like. That is one of the reasons that I really prefer a pure/native ECU -based FI system.

Just wait two week and see my twin turbo setup - that's what i mean.

DFW, CONGRATS - I am sure you will love the Vortech. Thanks for the detailed info on other mods, etc. Great info for those considering a S/C and also for those of us already have one. Enjoy!

DWFG35...congrats.....I have been thinking of the 9lb pully . Did Grubbs do any tuning to your set up ? The Split Second box...with the R4 software is very tunable and CAN control a auxillary injector . My tuner kept my A/F between 11.8 and 12.2 to 1 and Im going back to play with timing a little .You should be able to smooth that power curve and get alot more out of it with that 9lb pully

Couldnt afford it when young...gonna play when Im old

Re: Vortech install Done 352.58 RWHP

good results but...

are those dyno numbers with the 9 lb pulley, if so you should be getting a bit more power, im making 371 with the 8 lb pulley, plus you have the plenum and tsecu, yall need to hit the r4 program some more and get closer to 400.

as far as the pulley is concerned, its just a direct bolt on correct? no other issues have to be addressed? and how do we retain the warranty?

having sig issues at the moment.

Re: Vortech install Done 352.58 RWHP

If you call John at Grubbs he can tell you the details on how he got around the 8LB limit. Also speaking of R4 I am looking for a little advice so I don't mess things up. Here is what my software is currently set for, any advice would be appreciated.

Take a look

Re: Vortech install Done 352.58 RWHP

wthe cells you show are way too high, they start at 8K, you need to be looking at the cells from 0-9psi, anything above that is useless in our applications,

boog. oh man i love the power, i have ran it pretty hard a few times, i drive it daily so im getting plenty of opportunities. i took it to the track but got terrible times because it was a new track and i was having traction issues. hehe. but it was fun.

having sig issues at the moment.

Re: Vortech install Done 352.58 RWHP

Everything below 8.5 PSI is set the same. In other words it’s like they duplicated column 8psi for 0 to 7PSI.

How are yours set? Example please if possible. Just curious.
