Im currently debating whether or not to install the kit myself. I was quoted 1700 from Vinny Ten Racing.. installed and tuned with new plugs, oil filter, boost gauge and a pod. How much is the usual for a full vortech install, or just a tune assuming I installed it myself? They are saying a tune is 3-5 hours worth of dyno time at $150 an hour.

On a side note im from the long island area if anyone can recommend any installers.

 

So $1700 is with boost gauge and pods? I think that is not a bad deal. A full custom tune is between $400-$600. A boost gauge + pod + plugs is easy $250 so he's charging you less than $1k for the installation which is good. You mentioned new plugs and new oil filter but no new OIL.. So is he going to re-use your oil??? J/K lol

I just spoke to Vinny for the first time and he seem to be a cool guy (because he's a Pacquiao Fan.. lol). I'll be heading to VTR this Friday for an idle raise and I will check his shop for the first time and maybe check their new Hydra EMS.

 

Yea thats what he told me, 1700 for everything. I just bought SundevilJay's kit.. same car same tranny..same setup. would his ecu be ok to drive on for a few days if everything starts up and idles good?

 

that is not a bad price, your car will be fine to drive but stay out of boost as tempting as it is

 

1700's not too shabby considering you probably got a good deal on the kit itself.

Anyone who did the job themselves feel like it justifies 1700 minus the cost of tuning? I will be doing the install with two of my buddies who are both mechanics. I looked through the vortech manual as well as a couple diy guides and nothing in there looks hard at all. Splicing wire harnesses looks like the toughest thing which i am comfortable doing.

 

It's a pretty easy and straightforward install. Intercooler, plate, piping, fuel...easy stuff if you can turn a wrench.
