I'm currently building a motor capable of 700+whp. Cams, APS TT Extreme fully built engine, HeadGames headwork, etc. Anyway, my thought is that the OEM 19 tires (Bridgestones) will struggle to grab the road when I start to really crank up the boost.
Is there any way I can keep these wheels/tires and run HP levels beyond 500whp? I think I already know the answer to this but I figured I'd ask. I REALLY love the look of the OEM Ray's 19's and if I gotta go with something wider to get a bigger traction patch, maybe you guys can direct me to a thread of all the coupe aftermarket rims. I found one on the sedans, but not our coupes.

You gonna need at least 275 or greater to keep that baby grounded. I currently running 285 on a 19x11 rear. I may bump up to a 305 to get better traction on da dips.. don’t forget that suspension and upgraded Braking system is important when pushin to the limits..

get the wheels widened. you can have them spaced out. welding shops do it all the time. stock wheels with wider tire, yes. its sleeper as hell. im planning on doing just that sometime down the road.

You will need a minimum of 275's in the back, and I bet with as much power as you're going for, that won't be wide enough.
I just upgraded from OEM 19's with 245's in the back, to 20's with 275's. There is a huge difference in traction.
With the OEM's, under hard acceleration, the tires would break loose on the 1-2 shift and the rear would kick out to the side. Now there still is some tire chirp, but much less violent. I think I'm a bit quicker now because more power is used to go straight forward rather than kicking out to the side.
BTW I am only pushing around 400rwhp and 345tq. I bet with more tq you'd need even wider tires.

I would love to keep the OEM rims, since I love the look of them. I've heard of this widening process, actually. The idea was very intriguing to me. I know the OEM Ray's 19's are forged and very high quality rims.
If I were to "widen" them, I'd want to make sure they were still just as high quality as before if at all possible. I don't want to sacrifice the integrity or strength qualities of the rim by doing this. Is it possible to have them widened and still allow them to hold up just fine under boosted (~600whp) conditions? If so, this is definitely the solution for me! I'd like to get them widened enough to support 305's at least!

The welding and widening part occurs on a section of the wheel that sees very little stress so it won't weaken the wheel significantly. Widen then 2" and run 30mm spacers and you should be able to get a 295/305 on there relatively easily

^^^^^^^I was thinking of having these widen by 1". will it still fit my Coupe with rolled fenders? +30 and 8.5 width..

do it bro. i was talking with a welding shop and he wanted 100 bucsk a wheel to do it. they balance and mount the tire and everything. it shouldnt cost too much. it'll look sleeper, more agressive with the better looking offset, and get tons of traction. i'd do a two inch cut at least. those stock wheels are 8.5 in the rear right? i dont have any problem fitting 285's on my 10.5 inch wheels. im going to try 295 next. i'd say thats your best option for more traction.

yea, staying mildly stock looking is a CA thing. keeps the cops attention away, somewhat.

With that much power you will still loose traction from 1st to 3rd....the only thing i could suggest is using Toyo r888 tires but they are limited in sizes and they dont last long.

I was trying to avoid spacers since I'll be running with so much power (I've already got 15mm/20mm's on there now, but I'm N/A). Will I need the spacers to get 305's on there? Any risk of running spacers with cut/widened wheels running at extreme boost?
