hey guys... i just recently installed the APS extreme TT kit on my '05 G35.. i was wondering what you guys thought the next performance mods should be to get the best performance out of my turbo.. i was thinking upgrading the rods next or installing the APS 3" exhaust system and the random technology cat (if anyone has any opinions on that) as i drive the car on the street as well.. Let me know what you guys think

i still need to keep the car street legal as i use it to drive around as well and im pretty sure removing the cat converter will mean i'll fail the emissions test.. thats why i was wondering what you thought about the random technology high flow cats as opposed to the stock ones...
I had HFC with my SC setup, it melted metal core inside the HFC after 3~4000 milies. 550 dollars hfc just fly out, for long term/money and power, i recommand TP or RTP over HFC. But it doesn't mean HFC is bad choice, it still better perform than OEMs. It's just my thoughts.
I ran fast intention high flow cats (2.5", 300 cell) and then had custom cats ordered from SMS products (4.25", 200 cell). Both were metallic core and worked fine up to about 400/450 whp (DJ) respectively.
I've only heard of issues with a few manufacturers (Berk for one). It is critical that you run an EMS that can provide a good tune. Running rich will destroy cats quickly. You need to be able to idle and cruise around town at 14.7 afr.

That's good news. As soon as my OS Giken clutch gets here I'll be getting the JWT 530bb TT kit put in and was hoping I wouldn't have to change my exhaust out. I've got the Fast Intentions 300 cell HFC and Intimidator Cat-back on my Coupe

okay so it seems like i'm gonna go with the exhaust system and FI cat as the next mod.. looking at the engine in the future i'm looking for about 500whp.. i've heard good things about the crank, sleeves, and cams that come stock on the g35 engine.. i guess the main thing as a longevity issue is the rods and if i should replace them.. also looking at the flywheel and clutch.. any suggestions?

Yes, the rods are your biggest issue. Get a built shortblock that has better pistons, rods and is balanced. Then you will be able to use the APS extreme turbos. Otherwise, that kit was a complete waste of money. There are other kits that will give far, far better performance on a stock block than the APS extreme, and for a lot less money. You will not realize the advantages of your turbo kit until you have a short block that can handle the boost it will provide.
To clairy for the newbies, the APS Extreme turbo kit has large turbos that don't spool up until the 4k - 5k rpm range. Once they spool up, they will provide alot of boost, way more than a stock block can handle if you let those turbos run without wastegating them prematurely. But a stock short block cannot handle that much boost, so to keep from blowing the motor, you must wastegate them before they ever get a chance to show their stuff.
On the other hand, smaller turbo kits such as the small JWT and PE kitts will spool up in around 2700 rpm, and let you get max HP out of the motor from that point all the way up to red line. In other words, the smaller turbos give way more average HP.
The smaller turbos can't, however, produce anywhere near the maximum torque/HP of the APS extremes in the upper RPM range on a motor that is built to handle the torque/HP. Thus, to get the benefit of the APS extreme turbos, you need to have a motor that can handle the power those turbos are capable of providing. Otherwise, the extra expense of that kit is a waste of money, and you will actually get much less perforamance than if you get a turbo kit better suited for the block's capabilities. In other words, instead of getting maximum torque from 2700 rpm to 7000 rpm, you only get it from about 4700 rpm to 7000 rpm. (These rpm ranges are approximate). If, however, the stock block is built to rev higher and handle the boost of the APS extremes, you will get serious, serious HP from 4700 rpm on up.

So, just saying, it might not have really been the fault of the cat manuf.

Also are you sure you have the extreme kit? I only ask because you mentioned something about adding high flow cats. The APS Extreme Kit comes with 3.5" downpipes...are you not using them?
My clutch reccomendation to you is the Carbonetic Tripple Plate for street use. Awesome driveability.
On the whole if you do for a fact have the extreme kit...then you have alot of work to do until you can really crank up the boost. Good luck with it.
