PE TT install nearly complete...

Looks like I'm going to be sedan #2 with the PE TT kit. Install began yesterday afternoon and will likely wrap up this evening. Dyno scheduled for Monday.

Re: PE TT install nearly complete...

You should get the book Maximum Boost which talks all about Turbos and covers water cooling and oil cooling (vs air cooling).

Re: PE TT install nearly complete...

Turbocharger bearing(s) are lubricated --- and cooled --- with engine oil. The combination of "dyno oil" and high turbo operating temperatures can and has resulted in the lube oil "coking" and subsequent bearing failure. (The use of modern synthetic oil has helped to reduce this problem.)

Some turbochargers are designed with a water jacket that surrounds the bearing housing. This water jacket can be "plumbed" to use engine coolant to help cool the turbo's bearing(s) and therefore increase the turbos life by a factor of two (according to Mr. Bell).

Re: PE TT install nearly complete...

...Do turbos really fail? Are you serious?

Of course they do! I had stock turbo bite the dust on my '79 2.3L Mustang Turbo, along with about 100 other parts on that car. It seems I bought it before Quality was Job 1.

Re: PE TT install nearly complete...

I'm also finishing a PE TT install for a friend. What fittings did you use to connect the water cooling lines? Where did you buy them? where did you tap the cooling lines? I'd like to add the cooling lines also before everything is finished,so if you have the part # or the company to buy the parts from I'd really appretiate it.
Sorry for so many ?'s
