Stillen S/C pulley belt replacement
Stillen S/C pulley belt replacement
Hey guys, need help really quick, i got a replacement belt from stillen, took the old belt off, removed the tensioner but i cant get the new belt to slip onto the s/c pulley, there just isnt enough slack. Did stillen give me the wrong size belt or is there something i should be doing to get the belt over the pulley?
Make sure the belt is seated completely onto the drive pulley (The one tucked down "in" the engine) so that you have the maximum slack. Then using a socket wrench on the nut for the blower pulley, "work" the belt onto the blower snout pulley by walking it on with your fingers as you turn the wrench.
Take your time!! If you try to get it on there too much at a time, you can break the inards of the belt, causing it to fall apart after only a few thousand miles. Remember not to overtighten the tensioner, as this can cause bearing wear. You should be able to twist the belt 1/4 of a turn when properly tensioned down. You'll knwo if it's overtightened because it will be super hot after even a short trip. And it will smell like burning rubber under the hood. It's easier to do then it sounds. My current belt has 10,000 miles on it, and still looks new.
