Built Vortech G35 on Dyno Dynamics

Whats going on guys, I just wanted to share my Vortech numbers from Function Tuned. I previously blew my built engine at just over 4k miles spinning my bearings; I blame the non rev up oil pump for that; anyway, I ended up going with another built block and ditched the ss box. Dave suggested we go with Osiris as it would help the car operate more like stock. After a couple hours of tuning on a DD, I managed to make just over 400whp and 370wtq. I am very happy with my numbers and Dave tells me there is more to be made, just need to upgrade the intercooler and/or bumper. It’s my understanding that a dynojet would read higher putting my numbers at 440 or 450ish…

I will be going back to FT for all of my tuning as Dave and Ken seem to really know what they are doing. If you’re on the east coast you should def consider taking your car there. By the way, I drove down from NY and they took care of me quickly.

I tried uploading the dyno but it kept failing, you can see the chart over at my350z.

All I gotta say is wow, and who built and tuned that engine that went boom in 4k miles?

Pretty mild numbers for a build engine, stock block numbers basically...time to do the proper upgrades and make sure you're running 100% efficiently this time around. A new bumper isn't going to do much if anything, you would be surprised how well the OEM G bumper flows.

I have customers that made 415whp and 405wtq at 8.5psi on a stock block all day (Precision T4 6262 turbo), and the turbo is still sleeping. Why build the block if you are staying with the S/C?

I built the block for longevity reasons, there is still more power to be made from the Vortech unit but im happy with my numbers.

Also, I purchased my former built block from IPP and got it tuned at FT with the ss box; but, I understand the problem with the spun bearings was most likely caused by a lack of oil. I was an idiot and stayed with my old non rev up oil pump.

Not sure how a non rev oil pump would spin bearings unless you're beating the absolute **** out of it (e.g. bouncing off redline for extended periods). More than likely you overheated the oil and the bearings gave out.

Are you running an oil cooler?

Interesting, no I am not running a cooler because I didnt think I needed one. At the time I was pushing 140 and right after I backed off I started hearing a knock. Funny thing is I was only pushing 350whp on a DD when my bearings went, guess I should invest in one.

It's cheap insurance IMO.. my oil temps are 220-230deg just cruising down the freeway on a hot day. A couple of 4-5th pulls and it's nearing dangerous...that's with a cooler. Bearings are the first to go when the oil gets too hot. 260-300 degrees is sometimes enough to cause permanent damage depending on the bearing material, even if the oil is still OK afterwards.

Upgrading the intercooler on a non-T Trim blower is a huge no-no. You'll most likely loose boost on a vortech. Read the vortech faq thread and do more research before you spend any more.

If you're blowing motors on a simple vortech setup, even with the smallest pulley, it means your tuner is doing it wrong (he didn't know how to handle the SS box (which are very tricky to tune)). Moving from a SS box to an Osiris isn't a huge improvement either.

I am running an oil cooler as well, but I never see temps as high as yours. Just yesterday I was cruising on a very hot day in SoCal 100 degrees+. While crusing I never saw above 190 and during hard pulls it never went above 210. Where is your cooler mounted? Possibly not enough air flow?

Yes I am running a sandwhich plate with a t-stat...but when I am sitting in traffic it seems to hold temps just fine.
