Need help installing gauges for an APS TT Kit

Need help installing gauges for an APS TT Kit

So I bought an 06 G35C that has an aps tt kit installed on it. It has no gauges however, and I would like to add them. The cheapest quote I've gotten is like 450, which I feel is a bit ridiculous for a gauge I can get for like 30(ish) a piece. So has someone posted a how to, on installing say an oil pressure gauge, egt, and boost gauge on a g35?

I would guess the gauges would have instructions with them....well maybe not $30 gauges. Or maybe try to search the DIY section on the forum.

So I was doing some research and saw that stock the g35 has an oil pressure sending unit but it only shows when its low. If I hook a pressure gauge up to it will it read correctly for my gauge or do I need a new oil sending unit. Thanks

Oil pressure is easy. Just get an oil filter adapter (it screws between your oil filter and provides threaded access points for sending units.

Boost is simplest one to do. The manifold already has an unused vacuum port(has a cap on it). Just plug the sending unit on there, or if something is connected, T off it.

Hardest part is routing cables through the dash. Easiest way here is go through where battery is, then inside the big grommet near windshield where all wiring goes through. Just unwrap tape from the large grommet pass thru and fish your wires through. Then re-wrap with electrical tape or similar.

I unplugged my stock one and plugged in the aftermarket one, it may or may not cause the SES light on (I would guess it will come on since it won't see oil pressure anymore) your dash to come on. I run a standalone ECU so my SES light is on anyway.

EGT requires additional bung welded into down pipe.

I would install a wideband O2 gauge, also requires bung welded into down pipe.

Like sylvan mentioned the gauges come with instructions. Its not hard but time consuming to do it right.

Not sure what brand of gauge but do not run a mechanical oil pressure gauge line into passenger compt unless its braided steel. Too much risk relying on nylon tubing.

Stay away from cheap gauges, get what you pay for.

I can't remember which brand I am gonna get. Some one recommended it as opposed to cheap ebay ones. I'm definately getting electrical ones now though.

Just looked and the gauges are pro sport

I lean more towards old school, I've used Autometer gauges for 20+ years, currently have Ultralite gauges with white face and silver finish trim.

A comprimise to using the electric oil press gauge is Autometer full sweep electric gauge that has an accurate transducer sending unit. The full sweep gauge is 3x-4x more money than standard electric gauge.

I have the autometer Nexus gauges they are a little more money but they have peak as well as play back and warnings could be set. They also they can be dimmed and the colors can be changed. Great gauges but not cheap.

The biggest issue with the G (at least to me) is where to mount the gauges without making the interior of the car look bad.

The O2 bung mounting location is critical so make sure whoever welds it knows what they are doing (although you didn't mention an O2 gauge I'm assuming you'll add one).

The electrical connections will vary from gauge to gauge but most of them will need at least switched power and ground and some of them may require illumination. In an '06 you can grab all those signals behind the radio fairly easily.

When you route wires through the passenger firewall make sure you seal the grommet back up, otherwise water will leak in and can potentially damage your ECU.
