Hill garage (Maryland) priced my turbo build out

Been talking with hill Garage maryland (closest person to northern va i would trust letting do this). What i asked for was clutch options, short block with forged components and a 550 whp gtm twin turbo kit. Hope this helps people who always ask for prices to things. What are your thoughts.

From Frank hill-The clutch install will run around 475$ and would cover any clutch install and needed components. I would recommend at least a stage 4 single disk and single piece flywheel (steel)"nothing too light" or one of the more expensive twin or triple disk units. The steel flywheel is 400-500$ depending on manufacturer and stage 4 clutches are around 500-600$ range +100$ for line/pivot/pilot bearing. We like the os giken gran touring twin disk but pricey at 2100$. The carbon clutches are a bit smoother but are quite a bit different between hot and cold and can get grabby when they heat up. Work and wear great though!.Always lots of trade offs with clutch choices.

Basic built bottom end engine with custom cp pistons and carillo rods start out around 6-7k range installed. There are tons of options that can take cost to the 15k or higher level depending on preferences and power/reliability levels desired. Also needed parts to freshen up engine such as oil pump/water pump/timing chains/tensioners/guides etc. While these parts may be re used if coming from a good condition low mileage engine the risk of re using parts from core engines or really high mileage engine is not a risk we recommend to take. If you are sure you would like to build your engine we can get a more accurate quote together for you based on your specific needs and goals.

The labor time to install the gtm twin turbo kits usually runs about 28-35 hrs or so @ 110$ per hr depending on options such as fuel system, oil coolers, gauges, boost controllers etc.. We have done installs parts/labor and custom tuning for around 13-14k range some as high as 18k with options. Maybe you could plan to visit the shop one day and discuss details for a accurate estimate to get you exactly what you want.

Those prices seem fair for the quality of work that they perform. I've heard of and seen a few good builds out of Hills Garage.

Good tuners

I posted this to put info out on a good shop since there arnt that many left. For the non west coast guys we have hill, vinny tin in new york, shop in georgia and i think one in florida. We have to keep good ones alive. Plus there is a thread once a month about price of clutch install and what is needed. Hope that I encouraged others to build thier cars up. My Build will be slow going but iam definatly going to do it.... even with $4 a gallon

That's alot of information to be putting out on the WWW. lol

Make sure you sit down with Frank and plan out what your "goals" are with what is in your "budget and your means" because doing an FI build on a non-FI platform will "BE Expensive and intensive" as a lot of factors come into play

I know my whp numbers i want. Was thinking about the 3.8L upgrade but not sure if i want to spend the money on it. Ill either do this or save the 15 to 20 grand and put a down payment on a used R35. Then again the new m3 is going to be tri boosted. So many options lol.
