Decently priced turbo?

I'm on a strict budget for the moment, but was wondering if there were any setups that aren't Ebay rice **** for a decent price?

I was looking into the stock twin setup on a VG30DETT and was wondering what I'd need to do before installing them (if anything), a price range for the complete setup, and opinions on if it'd even be worth it.

What is your perception of "decent" price?

I could be wrong but I don't think that's been attempted. I imagine some serious fabrication/hacking would be needed. IMHO not worth it.

If you are on a strict budget then FI is not for you.Do a little search and look at all the little problems that creep up and youll understand why.

Strict budget and FI on this platform are like black socks and sandals... with shorts and skinny, pastie white legs. You can definitely do it... but... oooooooooooooooooh dude.

Thank you everyone for feedback..

I remind you, it was just a thought. I know the VQ35 is a decently stout stock engine, and I was going to see how good it'd hold up for me on low boost, but the guy with the comment about black socks and sandals is absolutely right. Lol.

Engine management - $300+
Upgraded MAF - $350
Dyno time - $500/$1000 minimum
Gauges - $300+
Injectors - $400-$500
Colder spark plugs - $60

I mean, it nickle and dimes you to DEATH. That's $1500 right there and that's not even the KIT. Then you have to upgrade your exhaust to get the most out of a turbo, $1000+, plenum's or spacers... $200-$700, there's another $1500. Vacuum hoses that you need a little extra of, $10. t fittings, $10, that one tool you didn't have in order to get to that particular spot, $20. the bag of washers you bought because you broke something. $5.00. Boost leak tester, $20. check valve for the PCV system, $20. Dremel blades to cut that one piece that's in the way of the intercooler piping, $8.00. RTV. $5.00 x2 (because you let the first one go bad when you used it, so you have to run to the store to grab another one when you're finishing up the install)

You can pretty much ask any FI owner... you plan and plan and plan and plan and come up with a figure. Then add a grand to it for all the unexpected sh*t. LOL

I've done FI on several different cars. The VQ is by far the worst as far as costs go. lol

edit: at least from what I've done. I've never attempted a TT kit on an R8 or a Gallardo. But you get what I mean

And it's not that anyone here is discouraging you from trying, dreaming, planning or from looking. That's certainly not the case.

You can get some killer deals for each of the parts if you just spend 6-12 months hitting the forums and gathering used parts. If you have cash saved up, every so often a stupid good deal comes up on a turbo kit. Someone needs cash, someone is getting divorced, someone is selling their car and needs it gone out of their garage etc. Good deals happen all the time. Especially if you're mechanically inclined, if someone is selling their car or about to trade it in, hit them up and offer to buy the kit at a discounted price if you take it off and put their car back to stock. Plenty of routes to go that will save you money.

We're just trying to say if you want to go out, buy a turbo kit and drop it in right now, there really are very, very few methods of doing it inexpensively. :/

As previously mentioned here... ive had my car for 2 years now and have been doing research for about a year and a half of built blocks/parts/kits/shops ect and im coming to the relization that cheap and forced induction are not in the same sentence unless "not cheap" is in there. Ive been looking into possibly getting one fabed up or seeing if my friend will let me learn how to tig weld and fab one up myself but thats really the cheapest option. But with R&D plus measuring and messing it up its still pricey. Not to mention im a firm believer if your going to do something do it right from the first time which involves building the block, getting your supporting mods such as fuel and transmission mods, which believe me a lot can be spent there.

Then once you decide you want to build your block then the state of mind comes into play "for just a little more i can get this or that" and also the "i may as well do it while i have the motor open" but man do those things add up. I got into that mode last night and added everything up to almost 10grand in just the motor because i added little things here and there. So now im taking a step back, re-evaluating, and asking myself the all important question "What do i want out of the car?". Take it for what its worth and ask yourself that question first. Unfortunatly to do it right its not all about the motor and turbos ect, you need to put that power down too, then you need to stop fast, then you need to have sticky enough tires to make use of all that power, brakes and suspension.

But my single most valuable piece of advise i can give is research, research, research.
