8.8psi from Vortech v3 kit on 100k factory block

Recently installed brand new V3 SCi complete kit for 2003 G35 6MT on the factory block that has over 100k.

After sorting out a few final issues, and a break in the weather I was able to take it out for a quick test drive and do some logging with the Split Second R4 software and Innovate WB02.

Final runs at WOT logged pressures up to 8.8psi at ~6500rpm. I guess I was expecting low to mid 7psi on the stock 3.33 pulley with the mileage on the block.

Only mods are 5/16 spacer, Greedy cat-back dual exhaust and Volk 19" Time Attack wheels.

Thanks, I'm not in it to test the limits of boosting the VQ -- just wanted a little more 'uumph' when I went looking for it and I'm happy to say it's there.

Of course, psi does not equal power as exhaust back pressure can skew manifold readings. Will post again with hard numbers if I ever feel inclined to put it on a dyno.

Really wanted to go turbo as well, but here, in the bay area the smog hogs just don't call it legal. Good luck with the test.

I know I am late to this, but welcome to the S/C club. How has it been running so far?

Thanks! Looks, runs and sounds like it could be a stock option.

Yeah on second thought lol as a novice booster im gonna do the vortech v3 ive got 160 but if i can get pass the compression test with good numbers i will go with that set up on stock motor and have another built on side to handle more boost once the old one God forbid goes .

How's it going with the supercharger? I'm leaning toward the same set up so please keep us up to date.

Going quite well. The baseline tune Vortech / SplitSec provides is pretty darn near spot on. Have not dyno'd, or tracked the car yet.

Stop / go traffic drive ability is unaffected south of ~4500rpms. From 4500- redline it pulls hard enough for what I wanted (for now).

The blower whine has made me keep the radio off for the past 6 months.

LexD can you share your experience on getting it installed any prep work that you had to get done prior to install, any issues you've had along the way and of course the overall cost.

thanks.

Sure, lets see. The only preparation was reading thru the installation manual ~100 times and ensuring I had all the recommended items & tools ready to go. The best way to think of the install, is many small installs.

I removed the bumper cover for easier access even though the install manual don't mention it. The biggest headaches that weren't covered quite as well as I would have like them to be, were the power steering lines and a/c lines. Both of which are well documented here and over at my350z.

In total, I took us ~5 days, start to finish. We had the luxury of time, only spending 2-5 hours day and striving for perfection to the point of obesessing over every aspect of the process. I had fabricated a second mounting bracket for the IC as only one comes with the kit.

I run the included Vortech / Split-second box. Datalog using R4 and Innovate WB. Tune with R4. Just passed CA smog! No questions asked (lots of odd looks). Total cost, ~ 5k.

Nice
So you spent 5k on everything installing it?
I've read a couple of places that you can just 8psi on a stock block..
I just hit 100k but I feel like my engine already burns more oil than others..

With a supercharger you can run more boost then you can with a turbo. It's not HP that breaks engines it's torque. Try to stay under 425wtq and you will be set. If your compression and leak down checks are good you can run 12-15 psi with a blower.

After a year of running the complete vortech kit, and zero issues, I picked up a 3.12 pulley to see what kind of trouble I could get into.

After some initial data logging it became obvious I was leaning out at higher RPM's... In fact, this was expected.

What was not expected was my tuner explaining to me that I was running out of fuel on the top end-- that my (stock) injectors were not able to keep up... I looked at him confused --explaining that every guru on the forums inisited the stockers were good up to 400hp...

His finger then floated over to the number below... "You're way over 400 at the minute"

Some quick math 385 x .175(cpe power train losses) = 452HP!

I reminded him this was a stock block with over 100k on it. We decided it would be best to lower the rev limit to 6k (where it was leaning out), and shoot for 9psi at 6k.

Overall, couldn't be happier with this setup.
