Need a lesson in A/F
Ok I installed the Crawford high flow cats today. I also install the ETG and A/f bungs. So now that I have this gauge and can read whats going on I dont know chit about A/F. With the Vortech right out of the box I was running rich, really rich! To the point where I was fouling plugs. So today with the install of the cats along with my Injen exhaust I thought it would lean out a bit. So what should my #'s look like?
I'm assuming you're already running the 1 step colder plugs. With those, I would think that a relatively safe A/F would be between 11:1-12:1. Also, have you done anything with the internals (rods etc.)?
Your a/f should be 14.7 at idle and as you accelarte it should go leaner. You don't want to go leaner than 11.5 as you go into full boost. I think if you post this at my350z.com you could get more help. Maybe pm gq_626 he knows alot about FI.
Yeah Im one step colder. While sitting Im at 14.8 I havent really got to WOT yet but I gave her a bit of gas today and it was at 11.2 So under boost I want to be at 11?? No one tunned it yet. I installed it about two weeks ago. My tunner is booked for a month and a half.

It all depends on how much timing is being pulled, if their is no timing being pulled you would want it to be low to mid 10's with the correct amount of timing being pulled you'll be good anywhere around 11:5

If you have a recently made Vortech (mine was put together on 12/20/04) your tune should be great right out of the box. The SS box pulls timing and richens the mixture automatically depending upon both boost and RPMs. I'm not certain if other factors are taken into account such as intake temp. etc. Driving around town not under boost, your AF should be hunting around 14.7. If you goose it just a bit, you'll see it drop to the 13s. Harder throttle, going into 2-3 psi boost or more with RPMs above 3000, you see an immediate drop to the 12s, 11s and then 10s around 3/4 to max boost. This is a very safe tune, but you lose a bit of torque and HP near the top. A tuner will bring the low numbers up above 11 but keep them under 12. Then you're perfect. I didn't touch my timing but just did very slight fine tuning on the AF above about 5K RPM. With your mods, however, I'm not sure how the factory tune will work and you should definitely get dyno'd just to be safe.
Well hell drove the car today and its running great! I dunno if my maps were rally rich out of the box or what but the car was fouling plugs. Now that I have the cats its running perfect.
