vortech installed, now what?
pics
I have only driven the car for about 100 miles with the vortech, but I can definitly tell that my gas milage is going to go way down. Mainly from just wanting to take off hard at every stoplight. Also getting on freeways at full speed. gas mileage would probably be the same if you didn't step on it all the time
Hey I'm interested in gettin a Vortech s/c for my G35 coupe. not to interrupt your thread but whats the best ehaust system to go with for the s/c ? i heard a true dual is best, is INJEN SES a true dual?
Vortech noises???
I have that damn vortech rattle and a squeally belt.
From reading other threads looks like this might take a while to figure out why it rattles at idle, and how to adjust the belts tighter.
I went with the Evo2 exhaust when I put on this SC. I also got the greddy front bumper to allow more airflowl Unfortunalty while I was sriving down to San Diego for Thanksgiving, I nailed a blown tire on the freeway doing about 70 and broke the front bumber. I only had that on for about 5 days.
After about a week of driving the G with the vortech, I really love the power, I hit 150 on Highway 5 and it was still pulling pretty good. I was at about 5700rpm. I was only able to hit 140 stock.
again, my biggest complaint in the noise at idle. If I had known about the rattle noise I might have gone with either a TT, I will be working on the noise over the weekend and try to get the rattle to go away, but other then that its really nice.

damn, it's starting to rattle for u? Does it go away when u increase the idle to 900? Chances are the belt is now stretched and by tightening it again it should go away. keep us updated and sorry about your bumper.
If your Vortch rattles at idle that means your engine is about to blow up. Turn the car off and NEVER DRIVE IT AGAIN!
G8tor20, see what you've started. Your paranoia must be contageous. FLIP.... FLOP.... FLIP.... FLOP....

It sounds like the bearing are going out. From a lot of other posts this is normal, its just annoying when at idle. I drove it from San Francisco to San Diego and back and it has tons of power and feels good when driving so I'm not too concerned about it. I would like to try to remove the squeal from the belts though.
wait a minute... are the bearings going out or does it just sound like it is? if it just sounds that way, what is rattling? since the oil line could return these shards of bearings, and introduce them into the engine, this could become an issue. the only reason i've contemplated the ati kit.
side note: the problem with the ati is the tuning... how safe would the ati kit be with the utec as tuning management?

It sounds like the bearing are going out, but only at idle around 700 rpms. Once you go over 1000 rpm it sounds normal, so I don't think that the actual bearing are going out...That is just the sound it makes. If they really were going out, I would think that they would make the rattle noise at any rpm.
I invested in one of those pen style belt tensioner scales and set the belt to the factory numbers. After 700+ miles I've had no squeals, and we just had a solid week if temps between 25 and 40 in the mornings. Also, I don't know if anyone else has done this, but with the right tools I figured out how to adjust the belt without getting under the car. It make it a 2 min job...
As for the rattle, I found these 2 other posts in 2 other auto forums regarding the Vortech:
"...All the centrifugal SC units have a distinct whine/gravelly/rattle at idle. You are hearing gear backlash in the internal step up gear drive inside the SC.
The ratttle goes away after increasing the engine speed off idle to eliminate the backlash. ..."
"... I spoke with the Tech support at Vortech and they said that what I am hearing is the gear lash in the supercharger. At idle the there is air pulsing that is happening causing the supercharger gears to rattle. This can be fixxed by messing with the air inlet or exhaust ducting..."
Hope this helps...
