HKS Supercharger kit

I searched the forum for some info on the HKS kit but there's nothing concrete and especially no user reviews. I thought maybe some more people got the HKS kit by now and there's a bit more knowledge about it than before.

I'm about to order this kit at performance nissan parts still this year and I picked it over Vortech mostly because of the relatively silent operation (I've heard some opinions on Vortech noise, grinding at idle etc.) but there are still questions that bother me:
- will it fit the G35 for sure? (officially only 350Z version is available)
- is it much less noisy than gear driven s/c like Vortech or ATI
- is it tunable at all, with the preprogrammed F-Con S and no other size pulleys available?
- does it really cause problems combined with other mods, will I have to remove the plenum spacer, cats and so on?

I hope somebody has the info or the experience to help me out. Or would it make sense to just buy the Vortech and save the 1000$ difference for a different pulley and tuning it properly.

My buddy Lee has one on a 350,
-I checked and yes it does fit the G.
-Very little noise
-Not really tunable BUT the guys at Altered Atmospheres are working on some really cool stuff to make it more tunable (don't know the details of how) but my buddy is headed up there next month to see what they can do.
Not sure on the mod thing.
-Check out NinjaZ on my 350 he is the guy I know and he's done tons of research on it. Good luck.

It is based off of a Rotrex supercharger-basically a gear driven turbocharger with similar compressor maps. Very efficient, quiet, and a nice package.

It is not tunable (to my knowledge) without going to a different engine management solution.

Be aware. I have a G HKS SC kit installed on my 2003 G but compared with HKS SC Z the noise is much louder especially at idle. And it was actually the 2nd SC unit. The 1st one was unacceptably noisy. They said it was a bad one so they changed it for me. But still notably louder than the Z. Maybe that's why G SC kit is not officially released yet.

From what I understand, jgsm has the only HKS kit on a G other than HKS (they have a project car from what I hear) but it can be done. Some brackets have to be fabricated and the intercooler pipes have to be shortened a bit. As I stated, a friend of mine (NinjaZ) has had one on his 350 for a little over a year and it has performed flawlessly. The kit is pricey compared to others on the market and the dyno numbers (un-tuned) aren't as high as some of the other kits out there BUT I like the idea of the kit having a self contained oiling system as well as the quality of the kit. I dunno, I guess we'll have to wait and see what they do next for our cars... should be interesting

Hey Allen
The kit shouldnt be much differrent from the G to the Z . It should use the same bracket and blower . Just different IC pipes , and maybe the intake for it . Thats all . Have you discused with HKS any thing about the bracket it self ? You may have a bracket that isnt quite straight . Causing the blower not to line up right with the pulleys . That would make it louder than normal . I believe that is the problem with most of the Vortechs too . The serp belt gets tightened up to much , and pulls the bracket so the pulleys dont line up quite right .

?

Its not the same set up, I agree if the S/C is making lots of noise something is definately wrong, mine is very quiet sometimes i wish it were louder, I dont have any idea on why the S/C on the G is making lots of noise but the bracket should fit up just like on the Z. Maybe if he would define more on what kinda noise, maybe we could give sugguestions on what it might be.

I thought there was no tuning required?

There is no tuning required so to speak However...they can now be tuned by an HKS Pro Dealer. So really they don't HAVE to be tuned but with the proper tuning a few more HP can be squeezed out of them safely. Ninja 350 has had his untuned since he's had it and IMHO it is still an impressive kit. The down side of the plug and play (non tuned) the A/F is very fat just as a safety thing. AAM says they can tune the kit and still maintain reliability but get a few more ponies.

With the power the HKS put out and the price of it . The Vortech makes much more sense . $1000.00 cheaper , 40 to 70 more whp out of the box , and can be tuned by ANY good tuner for safe power
